Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hits cinemas in a matter of weeks. The third and final movie in the franchise will bring the story of Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and the rest of the rag-tag galactic do-gooders to a complete end. And, just a short while before the Marvel movie hits the silver screen, Vol 3’s director, James Gunn, has made a vow to his fans about what is to come.

Gunn has helmed every part of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s journey thus far, beginning with their first movie which premiered in 2014, and their second film, Vol 2, in 2017. He also helmed the recently released Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which aired on Disney Plus.

The upcoming third movie is being touted as the final adventure for the franchise. But that doesn’t mean Gunn is going to allow his series to fizzle out in any way.

The American filmmaker was recently quizzed about the movie on his Twitter account. One fan asked: “James, is it true that Guardians Volume 3 will be 2 hours and 29 minutes?” (sic)

He replied: “It’s around that long, although that’s not yet exact.”

The 56-year-old then went on to give his word about what is to come.

Gunn said: “And, I promise, not a second is wasted. There’s no fat. It was necessary to experience the full arc for every major Guardians character, not only for this film, but for the trilogy.”

Interestingly, he added: “(Or, I should say, trilogy plus).”

This ambiguous addendum to his tweet quickly got tongues wagging online, as many fans believed this mysterious “trilogy plus” statement meant further Guardians of the Galaxy movies were on the way. But he quickly clarified what he mean by this confusing comment.

Gunn told his followers: “The ‘trilogy plus’ is the trilogy plus the Holiday Special, [Infinity War] and Endgame.”

These entries to the Marvel Cinematic Universe all include the Guardians in some way – small or large – so it makes sense that they are part of Gunn’s “trilogy plus” collection.

Gunn’s confirmation about the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise follows a warning the director gave his fans when they began questioning the film’s plot lines.

One worried fan tweeted Gunn to lament spoilers for GotG Vol 3 across the internet.

The disgruntled fan said: “Hopefully people won’t post spoilers, I want to see this without getting spoiled.”

Gunn quickly replied: “It might be wise to be careful what you’re reading on social networking sites starting at the end of April if you want to avoid spoilers for #Vol3.”

He added: “That said, I don’t think your enjoyment of the film will be diminished much by knowing them.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy Plus is available on Disney Plus now.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 hits cinemas on May 5.
