Heartstopper stars tease season two of Netflix series
One of the storylines that really captured Heartstopper viewer’s attention was the blossoming romance between Tao, played by William Gao, and Elle, played by Yasmin Finney.
But some fans were distracted from their adorable scenes because of one thing; Tao’s flicked bob hairstyle.
Viewers of the show will be familiar with Tao’s rather distinctive bob with a flicked-out fringe. However, the bold hairstyle seemed to divide viewers.
Some fans took to social media to share their thoughts and the show’s creator, Alice Oseman, was keen to address these comments in the upcoming season.
She explained: “When writing both the comic and the show, I try to focus on my own vision for the story and not give too much weight to the expectations of the readers and viewers.”
But apparently, the response to Tao’s hair was something that she couldn’t ignore.
She continued: “Of course, as a very online person, I read a lot of opinions about Heartstopper, and it’s impossible to stop that having some impact on my thought process when plotting the show.”
Alice concluded: “It’s sometimes helpful – for example, hearing that people absolutely hated Tao’s hair. I do like to know what people want to see in the show!”
The latest trailer for the second season, which will air on August 3, gives fans a sneak peek of how Tao’s hair will now look. The teaser also sees him address the change in his appearance.

He reveals to Ellie: “My mum’s been moaning at me to get a haircut.” It looks like the teenager has listened to his mum, as in a later clip his unique hairstyle is gone and has been replaced by a shorter cut.
And just from what they have seen in the trailer, people are much happier with his new hairdo.
@taoeIIe took to Twitter and said: “I’m HERE for Tao’s new hair.”
While @muracommie exclaimed: “TAO WITH NORMAL HAIR WE WONNNNNN.” (sic)

However, there were a few who would miss his season one bob.
@4hrtstppr argued: “Tao’s s1 hair is acc better than s2 hair in terms of the theories/backstories that came w it.. didn’t lie.” [sic] The theory in question being that he grew his hair long as a way of supporting Ellie in her transition.
@iyojimanzu suggested: “I guess I’m the only one who liked Tao’s hair before he cut it.” [sic]
Season 1 of Heartstopper is available now on Netflix, while season 2 airs on August 3.
