Hollyoaks Savage-Blake family now – rival soap, health battle and second career

Hollyoaks has seen some crazy families come and go over the years, but there wasn't one more dysfunctional than the Savage-Blake clan.

The two families, all linked together by Anna Blake, were made up of some of the most evil characters, from serial killer Will to the abusive Patrick.

But the family also produced some of the most beloved village residents, such as loveable fool Dirk and dreamboat Dodger.

While Sienna and Liberty are still roaming around in the village, other members of the family either turned their backs on Hollyoaks or met a grisly end.

Here is what the former stars are up to now.

Patrick Blake – Jeremy Sheffield

Jeremy Sheffield made his first appearance as Patrick Blake in 2012.

The actor, 56, was involved in several major storylines during his time on the Channel 4 soap, including the abuse of his wife Maxine Minniver and his demise after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Patrick was murdered in a shocking twist by his deranged granddaughter Nico Blake in 2016 after he realised she murdered Carly Bradley.

Before joining Hollyoaks, the actor starred as Alex Adams in Holby City from 2000 to 2003 and also played the role of Danny Stratton on Coronation Street in 2011.

His other acting credits include roles in Murder in Surburbia, police drama New Tricks, as well as the hit romcom movie The Wedding Date.

Away from acting, Jeremy has a surprise second career as he is a fully-fledged ballet dancer, having trained with the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden.

He put his name to a series of prolific dancing jobs, most notably starring in the music video for Queen’s I Want To Break Free.

However, his dance career came to an abrupt end at the age of 27 when he broke his toe and tore a ligament, causing him damage he could not come back from.

The former soap star also starred as the love interest in the promo for Natalie Imbruglia's huge chart-topping hit, Torn, in a non-dancing role.

Jeremy is openly gay but rarely speaks about his sexuality because he feels it's irrelevant to his career.

He previously said: "I don't feel anybody should have to wear their sexuality on their sleeve, but 99% of the time people make a projection onto me that I'm straight, and I feel that if I just allow them to run with that projection, then it's sort of as if I'm lying.

"It's a strange position to be in, because I shouldn't have to say anything, but I often do feel like I have to get it into the conversation. It's a shame, but that's how it is."

Dirk Savage – David Kennedy

Dirk Savage, played by David Kennedy, arrived in Hollyoaks village in 2011 and quickly became a fan-favourite character on the soap.

The loveable fool was a core part of the village until he met a grisly end during a fatal showdown with Milo Entwistle in 2018.

As things got heated between the pair after Dirk discovered Milo was blackmailing his wife, Cindy Cunningham, he angrily pushed Dirk in a swimming pool before electrocuting him when he switched on the light box.

After his exit scenes aired, David said he "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the Channel 4 soap and gushed over his on-screen family.

"I have met and worked with some wonderful people over the past 7 years including my real Savage family of Dodger, Will, Liberty, Dennis and Dr S'Avage, as well as my adopted family of Cindy and Holly," he said.

Prior to his role as Dirk, David made two appearances in EastEnders, portraying Dave Roberts in 2002 and Ray in 2006.

The actor starred as Billy 'Two Hats' in three series of William and Mary and has also dabbled with Hollywood, portraying characters in 2002 film Reign of Fire and the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans alongside Avatar's Sam Worthington.

Two years after he left Hollyoaks, David made appearances in BBC series Moving On, as well as ITV drama's Liar and Honour.

Dodger Savage – Danny Mac

In 2011, Danny Mac landed the role of Mark "Dodger" Savage and it's safe to say he made quite the impact during his four year stint.

Dodger was the biological son of Anna and Patrick but the adoptive son of Dirk, whom he saw as his real father.

The dreamboat became somewhat of a ladies man in the village, but things got messy when it was later revealed he unknowingly slept with his twin sister, Sienna Blake, which resulted in her teenage pregnancy.

Dodger was forced out of the village after taking the blame for his daughter after she pushed his unhinged brother, Will off a hospital roof.

The 35-year-old appeared on series 14 Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 and narrowly missed out on a chance to lift the glitterball after finishing in second place with partner Oti Mabuse.

His other TV credits include appearances in Sky's Trollied and BBC's Doctors.

He has also starred in musicals, On The Town and Sunset Boulevard.

Danny married fellow Hollyoaks actress Carley Stenson in 2017 after six years of dating and the couple welcomed a daughter, Skye Bella in 2021.

Dennis Savage – Joe Tracini

Hollyoaks fans first met Dennis Savage in 2011 when he arrived to see if he could stay with his uncle Dirk and his cousins.

Unlucky-in-love Dennis endured plenty of heartbreak, including overcoming the death of his wife Leanne Holiday after she was killed in an explosion in 2014.

Played by Joe Tracini, Dennis remained in the village for three years before departing with part-time stripper Blessing Chambers for a new life in Blackpool.

He made a brief return in 2018, reuniting with other members of his family for the funeral of Dirk.

Before and after Hollyoaks, the 34-year-old made a number of theatre appearances, starring as Buttons in several productions of Cinderella as well as the role of Patsy in the touring production of Spamalot.

Joe, who is the son of comedian Joe Pasquale, has been vocal about his struggles with mental health and opened up about living with borderline personality disorder in his book, Ten Things I Hate About Me.

Appearing on BBC Radio 2's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show in December, the mental health campaigner explained: "It's like bipolar. Essentially I've got an emotional disorder, so I feel things wrong and I often feel too much at the wrong times.

"To the point where life feels often unbearable because my plane of existence is very different to the common experience, and so yeah, that is basically what I'm doing, I just keep walking around trying to tell as many people as I can that I'm not alright."

Will Savage – James Atherton

Will Savage was introduced as an innocent and shy geek, but things weren't as they seemed.

Will, played by James Atherton was the son of Anna and Dirk, making him the half-brother of Dodger and it became apparent that he was always jealous of his big brother.

A few years after his arrival, Will's evil side began to come out and he plotted to steal his Dodger's soulmate, Texas, by pretending to be paralysed in order to guilt-trip her into marrying him.

After Texas revealed she would always love Dodger, Will brutally murdered her on their wedding day by pushing her out of a window.

By this point, Will had completely lost it and even went on to murder his own mother.

Will attempted to kill several other residents before he met his own demise at the hands of Lindsey Roscoe, better known as the Gloved Hand Killer.

Following his four year stint on the Channel 4 soap, James headed to the Cobbles and took on the role of stalker Jamie Bowman in 2015.

The 35-year-old also starred in one episode of Midsomer Murders and crime drama Vera.

James landed a titular role in a stage production of Rita, Sue and Bob Too which opened at the Octagon theatre in 2017 before touring the UK.

In 2019, the ex-soap star played Tim Collins in comedy series Ackley Bridge as well as Dr. McKenzie in the sitcom Porters.

His last on-screen appearance came as Jacob in the independent horror movie Paperboy released in 2020.

Anna Blake – Saskia Wickham

Anna Blake was the ex-wife of Patrick and Dirk, as well as mother to Sienna, Dodger, Will and Liberty.

Dirk and their family were led to believe Anna walked out on them, unware that she was actually placed in a psychiatric facility under Patrick's orders.

Anna discovered Will murdered Texas not long after her arrival in 2013, prompting Will to drown his own mother in the bath to prevent his deadly secret from coming out.

Prior to Hollyoaks, Saskia Wickham's most notable role came as Dr Erica Matthews in ITV drama series Peak Practise from 1996 to 1998.

Her other major roles include Alex Wilton in drama series Boon, Clarissa Harlowe in the 1991 BBC mini series Clarissa and Claudia Seabrook MP in the 1996 BBC drama Our Friends in the North.

The 56-year-old also performed as a voice actress, narrating audiobooks like Anna Karenina, The Two Gentleman of Verona and Richard III.

Her most recent on-screen appearance came two years after leaving Hollyoaks, taking on the role of The Professor in an episode of comedy-drama series Spotless.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
