Hollyoaks stars who returned from dead – swift exit, flashback and faking it

Soaps are known for their outlandish storylines and dramatic character deaths.

From dramatic cliff-hangers to heart wrenching scenes, characters across the serial dramas have been killed off in order to further narratives.

However, Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks has been one of the few soaps to write characters back into the show after they had supposedly died.

Daily Star looks at some of the most iconic character returns from the dead over the years from special episodes, anniversary tributes and emotional flashback scenes.

Luke Morgan

Luke recently returned to the village after falling off a cliff to his death.

Actor Gary Lucy filmed scenes as the character as part of a flashback scene involving his grieving widow Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring).

As Cindy suffered from a mental health relapse, she was visioning herself dancing with her later husband once again in emotional scenes.

Andy Holt

Andy was raised from the dead in February 2006 after being the main villain of the show throughout summer of 2005.

The bad boy was a student who took pleasure in drugging and raping women after spiking their drinks.

First appearing on the show in August 2005, Andy's initial charm soon wore off as viewers saw how vindictive he could be as he spiked Dannii Carbone's drink and raped her.

But despite his supposed death, actor Warren Brown returned to the show months later as Andy for a series of special episode.

Nico Blake

Nico surprised Hollyoaks fans when she returned to the Channel 4 soap in 2018.

The crazed teen, played by Persephone Swales-Dawson, was meant to have died in a disastrous maze fire on Halloween of 2016.

But it was not long before the serial killer teen made her return to the village, just over a year later.

Nico's return was confirmed when she was revealed to be stalking mum Sienna Blake, being found carrying her parent's then-newborn son Sebastian.

However, her return stint on the show was short-lived when she was killed by mum Sienna in self-defence, after Nico had attempted to kill Harley Frater whilst holding her and beau Peri Lomax hostage.

Kurt Benson

For the 25th anniversary of the show, Hollyoaks bosses confirmed that actor Jeremy Edwards would return to the village as Kurt Benson.

The lovable hunk was thought to have died in a jet ski accident back in 1999, but he had appeared in a number of various dream sequences throughout 2013.

Kurt was a popular favourite among fans and he burst onto the scene with his signature motorbike, alongside best friend Tony Hutchinson back in 2020.

Bosses at the soap never explained what happened to Kurt, with the official explanation being that he had faked his own death.

But Kurt's return proved to be less positive, as he tried to swindle Darren Osborne and Mandy Richardson in order to pay off a debt.

He eventually left again later in 2020, deciding to flee after his scam was exposed to the village.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 a 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
