How EastEnders' new family resolves a major flash forward murder clue

EastEnders fans are quite rightly bowled over by the announcement of a new family set to take Walford by storm later this year, joining Linda Carter behind the bar of the Vic.

The Knight clan, led by patriarch George (Colin Salmon), will arrive in Albert Square in early summer, with daughters Anna (Molly Rainford) and Gina (Francesca Henry) in tow.

The family in question will also be accompanied by Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who as long-time fans of the soap may recall, is none other than Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) mum.

It’s safe to assume that Elaine was on the mysterious phone calls Linda has been making amid her quest to find a new co-owner for her beloved boozer following Mick’s (Danny Dyer) tragic disappearance.

But in addition to overwhelming us with glee at the thought of a new era for the BBC One soap, the Knights’ arrival actually solves one of the biggest clues given to audiences during the historic flash-forward sequence earlier this year.

EastEnders broke from the norm to air a special sequence on February 20, set at Christmas 2023, which saw a number of the show’s matriarchs, including Linda, towering over a body, which Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) later pronounced as dead.

The identity of the corpse remains a mystery, but speculation has been rife in the weeks that have followed, with show boss Chris Clenshaw having recommended that eager viewers re-watch the scene in question, as it’s littered with clues.

One of the clues which stood out to viewers was a knight, which was positioned in the corner of the pub.

This knight isn’t currently on display in the present day events, meaning that it’s added to the boozer between the events currently playing out on screen and December time.

See where we’re going with this?

The news of the Knight clan pretty much confirms that George and his daughters will be responsible for putting the knight up in the bar, perhaps as a way of making their mark on the pub, signifying the beginning of a new era.

So, that’s one of the clues solved!

As for the identity victim, however, that remains a mystery. You’ll just have to keep watching.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
