I’m A Celeb stars forced to admit drugs and booze problems in strict ‘mental health MOT’ before jungle | The Sun

I’M a Celebrity contestants have been given mental health MOTs to make sure they don’t crack under the pressure cooker atmosphere of the show.

This included divulging any previous mental health issues and admitting to any booze and drugs problems.

The campmates – including Corrie star Sue Cleaver and radio icon Chris Moyles – have all undergone strict processes.

They were checked to see if they could withstand the stress of being sleep-deprived, the pressure of the team trials and being apart from their loved ones.

Celebs were asked about their fears, phobias and anxieties and what triggers problems or episodes and they were also asked to talk about any mental health problems, plus any addictions and details of medication they are taking or have taken.

An ITV source revealed: “The screening takes place before contracts are signed.

"The processes evaluate someone’s ability to cope in the show. It doesn’t matter that someone is famous – they are still human and with the same frailties as the rest of the population.

“The processes show the programme maker’s duty of care towards the well-being of the contestants and also guard against celebs having a meltdown in the first few days and quitting the show.

“They are asked to reveal any problems they’ve had with drugs and alcohol and if these issues are ongoing or in the past.”

Comic Brian Conley struggled to cope during his stint in the show Down Under.

In 2012, Brian, who has battled alcoholism and depression, quit after 10 days following a collapse.

After recovering he told TV’s Lorraine that problems arose when he stopped taking anti-depressants.

ITV have been contacted for comment.
