I’m A Celeb’s Fred Sirieix speaks out over ‘sexist’ backlash after axe from show

I’m A Celebrity star Fred Sirieix has spoken out about what viewers have dubbed his “sexist” row with fellow campmate Josie Gibson.

The First Dates star became the third famous face to get the boot on Tuesday (December 5). And it’s fair to say he got plenty of people talking during his stint in the Aussie jungle.

As fans will recall, he butted heads with This Morning host Josie after she was promoted to camp chef this week. Fred appeared to take issue with Josie taking on the role, and the pair came to blows over culinary skills.

At one point he claimed she didn’t know how to cook rice properly. Fred even told hosts Ant and Dec: “There is no method, there is no technique.”

And it didn’t take long for Fred to become embroiled in a “sexism” row. Many viewers claimed he was being “misogynistic” towards presenter Josie.

Especially as when the new camp chef was revealed to be Sam Thompson, Fred didn’t seem to take an issue. Instead of interfering like how he did with Josie, he merely let him crack on.

At one point in the episode, Josie and Sam spoke about it. Josie laughed: "What do you have that I don't?" and was met with a loaded silence.

And during his exit interview with Ant and Dec, Fred spoke about his criticism of Josie's cooking. Claiming she “makes it up as she goes along”, Fred added: "There's a lot at stake with the food.

“And it's not just what you're cooking at the moment which of course is going to be good, because the produce is incredible, it is what you can do the next day with the leftovers of the bones."

Fred was also quizzed on why he didn’t get involved with Sam’s cooking. He claimed that he was more organised and they had a more ordered approach to the cooking.

It comes after I’m A Celeb we’re convinced that Fred was “fuming” when he was voted off the show. During his post-exit interview, fans claimed that he didn’t look too happy to be there.
