Coronation Street star Erin Austen has promised viewers some ‘incredible twists’ in the aftermath of the acid attack storyline.
The actress, who plays Crystal, who bonded with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) over their shared love of DJing, spoke about the storyline and what’s coming up.
‘You’ll have to keep watching and trust me when I say there are some incredible twists coming up,’ she told the Liverpool Echo.
Ryan was hit by acid thrown by Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) last week, after he jumped between him and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).
Justin had been stalking Daisy for months, and told her that no one else would want her as he threw the acid at her.
Ryan, however, jumped in to protect Daisy, who was due to get married on the day in question, and he took the direct hit, being left in agony as Daisy attempted to help him as they waited for an ambulance.
Telling us what’s ahead for his character, Ryan told Metro.co.uk: ‘It will change the way Ryan interacts with the world.
‘The difficulty within the parameters of soap is to show some kind of reality that comes with the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor.
‘The recovery period is so long, if not lifelong. It’s psychotherapy, physiotherapy for many years if not the rest of your life. PTSD, trauma therapy, learning the simple things of dealing with people looking at you in the street.
‘There’s a whole phase of trying to accept that people are going to react differently to you now.’
Coronation street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
