Inside Phillip Schofield's close relationship with his mum as he rushes to her bedside | The Sun

PHILLIP Schofield has rushed to his seriously ill mum's bedside after she was rushed to hospital.

The former This Morning star turned to his 87-year-old mother Pat when he quit ITV after his controversy over an extra-marital affair with a younger male colleague.

Weeks before the former ITV anchor had become embroiled in a feud with co-star Holly Willoughby.

Last night The Sun revealed that Pat has been treated for an unknown condition in hospital for several days.

A TV insider said last night: “Given the stress Phillip has been through in recent weeks, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for the family.

“Given that his mother was the woman Phillip turned to in his hour of need, her illness is a particularly cruel twist of fate.

“He adores his mother and the whole family is trying to remain hopeful and keep faith that Pat will make a full recovery.”

Phillip and Pat have a very close relationship and she has been a rock to him over the past few weeks.

Last week he broke cover for the first time in a month and was snapped down in Cornwall to celebrate her birthday.

Earlier this year he opened up about their close bond during a Mother's Day tribute.

Phillip shared a rare snap of them both with a sweet message.

He wrote alongside the selfie: "Through thick and thin she's always there."

Phillip continued: "Happy Mother's Day to my amazing mum."

Pat also showed her support when Phillip came out as gay in 2020.

The star made a special trip down to Cornwall to visit his mum and tell her the news in person before he told the rest of the world on live TV.

"My mum has been on the phone all morning," Phillip told Holly during his emotional interview on This Morning on 7 February 2020.

"I went down to see her in Cornwall.

"She said: 'Oh ok, well I don’t care.'"
