Inside the life of Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien as soap star turns 40

Tina O’Brien: Corrie star performs a headstand amid lockdown

Since her Weatherfield debut back in the late 90s, soap star Tina O’Brien has been at the centre of some intense and heartbreaking storylines.

From a shocking teen pregnancy, almost being killed by her stepdad Richard Hillman (played by Brian Capron) and her most recent steamy affair with bad boy Daman Hay (Ciaran Griffiths), Sarah Platt’s life has had its fair share of drama.

As Tina has been part of the ITV soap for half of her life, Express.co.uk has taken a look into her time away from the cobbles drama as she turns 40.

The actress has two children, a daughter called Scarlett and a son Beau, with her current husband Adam Crofts.

She shares her daughter, who is 14 years old, with her former Coronation Street co-star Ryan Thomas who played Jason Grimshaw in the soap.

It looks as though Scarlett is following in her parents’ footsteps as she’s playing Izzie Charles in the 2023 reboot of BBC’s Waterloo Road alongside her uncle and Emmerdale star Adam Thomas.

Tina and Ryan started dating in 2003, following her brief romance with Bruno Langley who played her on-screen boyfriend Todd Grimshaw.

After six years of dating, the two actors decided to call it a day on their relationship following their daughter’s first birthday.

At the time, Tina spoke to New Magazine and stated he didn’t love her anymore. She said: “He said I didn’t do it for him any more. Those were his words.

“I was absolutely devastated. He said he didn’t want the responsibility of a relationship with me.”

The duo have had a rocky relationship following their split, with Ryan accusing Tina of smashing his car with a baseball bat in a row last year.

However, the soap star found love again with Adam who she became engaged to in 2016 after a few years of dating.

The duo tied the knot in 2018 on New Year’s Eve with Tina confessing Scarlett played a role in how they met.

In 2017, she told The Mirror: “He was working on his computer and Scarlett went over and said, ‘Hello, man.’ He told us his name was Adam and we got talking.”

The pair welcomed their son to the world in 2014 and they all live together in a plush Manchester home which she regularly shows snippets of on social media.

In 2007, she took a break away from the cobbles when she was 23 years old to explore other acting opportunities.

Although she starred in Waterloo Road, Casualty and Call The Midwife, Tina went back to play Sarah on Corrie in 2015 and has stayed on the soap ever since.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other media publications, the actress paid tribute to her on-screen family.

She said: “I could get quite emotional about it, I love Helen (Worth) and Sue (Nicholls) so much.

“I started on that show when I was 16 years old and Helen has shown me nothing but love since day one.

“What she’s managed to do is create a feeling on-set that we are a collaboration. You can work with other people and they can be a bit ego.

“Helen is all about making something that works, I think it’s enabled us to actually find our own little soap family.

“I genuinely sometimes spend more time with the Platt family than I get to with my own family, I adore them all.”

Coronation continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
