ITV Deal or No Deal viewers slam player for using ‘strategy’ that ‘never works’

Deal or No Deal fans have hit out at a player who seemingly used a strategy that many claim "never works".

The revived series of the hit game show returned to ITV last week, and returned to our screens on Friday (December 1) with host Stephen Mulhern welcoming another player to beat the Banker. For today's episode, truck driver Stevie was chosen to play his game in the hopes of winning £100,000.

Seemingly shocked that he had been chosen, Steven erupted into laughter and joy as he walked to the central table in the studio. As he sat down, Stephen asked him about his life story, where he revealed that he had become a de facto lord.

"A few years ago I discovered this website where you can buy a plot of land on a Scottish estate and you can use the title of Lord or Laird," Stevie explained. "So I bought a piece of land and I'm a proper lord."

Stevie added that because of the title, he had stamped the name "LORD STEVIE" onto his truck, adding: "Legally, I can change my name on my passport and driver's licenses."

Host Stephen was also quick to bring up the cuddly toy Stevie had brought up with him. The cheeky Scottish chap was happy to explain why, as it was close memory from his 2-year-old granddaughter.

"I've got a 2-year-old granddaughter who means the absolute world to me," he explained. "Her name is Phoebe and this is one of her favourite toys that I was allowed to borrow for good luck."

And it was clear that Phoebe had more of an effect on Stevie's game as he had helped to influence his strategy. It was revealed that Phoebe had written down the first five numbers that her granddad would use to play his game.

Explaining his method, he said: "I actually got my granddaughter to pick my first five boxers. These are Phoebe's numbers."

However, he quickly added onto his gushing for his little tot: "It also means if it goes wrong in the first round, it's not my fault." The comment left host Stephen in fits as he tried to carry on with the show.

But fans of the show were quick to berate Stevie for his game strategy, with many unsure whether writing the numbers down affects the game. Many fans took to social media to vent their frustrations at the method.

One fan watching the show hit out at the idea, writing: "Numbers on paper never works, just play the game Stevie!" A second user agreed, commenting: "I've said this many times, stop writing numbers on paper! They never work."

Phoebe's numbers proved to be rather unlucky, as within the first round, he had knocked out the top prize of £100,000. A third user found the situation rather funny, joking: "Obsessed with Phoebe being s**t at picking numbers."

Stevie's game would go on to be an intense show, as he was able to deal with the Banker for £24,600. However, it came at a stark cost, as it was revealed at the end of the game that he had £75,000 inside his box.

Deal or No Deal airs every weekday at 4pm on ITV1 and ITVX
