ITV This Morning fans slam Dermot O’Leary as he ‘interrupts’ guest’s devastating story

Dermot O'Leary, the host of This Morning, was told to "shut up" by viewers after he interrupted a guest's heartbreaking story about surviving a terrorist attack.

The former X Factor presenter, 50, was hosting the popular ITV daytime show with Alison Hammond on Wednesday (October 25) when they interviewed Steven Gallant, one of the brave individuals who confronted a terrorist during the London Bridge stabbing incident in November 2019.

Steven shared his experience of being at a networking event at Fishmonger's Hall in central London when the attack occurred.

He recounted hearing the terrifying events unfold from the next room: "Going back to that day, it was a conference I was attending.

"I was really looking forward to it – I'm in this great place called Fishmonger's Hall, surrounded by great people and everything was going really well."

At the time, Steven was on day release from prison, serving a life sentence for murder. After rehabilitation and a determination to change his life, he was given the opportunity to rejoin society, even if just for a day.

Steven shared: "I remember hearing screams, and it was my first day out prison," but Dermot quickly interrupted him, exclaiming: "That's incredible – it was the first day out of prison!"

Steven went on to say: "I got told by the officer escorting me that day to stay put. So I stayed there and the screams continued and I said 'sod it' and went to investigate."

Dermot asked if he was scared to break the rules after being conditioned by prison life. "You don't want to mess up," Steven admitted.

He described finding people with stab wounds and confronting terrorist Usman Khan, who had a fake suicide bomb and two knives.

The fight moved to London Bridge, where the police arrived and killed Khan after a struggle.

ITV viewers were annoyed at Dermot's constant interruptions during Steven's interview as ine viewer tweeted: "Dermot repeatedly talks over people he's interviewing, shut up please!"

Another frustrated fan wrote: "For the love of God, let the man talk Dermot!" A third agreed, saying: "LET HIM BLOODY SPEAK!!! Constant interrupting!!"

A fourth viewer chimed in, saying: "Alison and Dermot ask the guy to tell his story about what happened but yet keep interrupting him whilst he's trying to tell it! It's right annoying!"

Catch This Morning every weekday at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
