Jason Manford discusses Freddie Flintoff after Top Gear accident
Freddie Flintoff was the victim of a horrifying crash while filming for Top Gear – and former star James May has broken his silence on the show’s future.
During filming in Surrey in December last year, the former England cricketer was driving at speeds of up to 130 mph in an open-topped three-wheel Morgan Super 3 sports car.
However, things took a drastic turn when Freddie’s vehicle crashed and flipped over, dragging him and a crew member along the track.
Being airlifted to the hospital, which he reportedly had to wait 45 minutes for, the 45-year-old suffered serious injuries such as a broken rib and facial and jaw injuries.
In light of the event, Top Gear’s production came to a halt while an investigation took place – with many questioning whether or not the show will continue to go ahead at all.
With fears for what the crash means for the show’s future, former Top Gear star James May has spoken out.
The 60-year-old left the long-running show back in 2015 alongside his co-stars, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.
Speaking about the show’s future, James said: “Maybe it’ll be another enforced reinvention of Top Gear.
“It happens now and then, and it’s no bad thing. That’s a big, difficult question for the BBC.
“Whether or not it’ll keep going, I don’t know. I watched it as a kid so I wouldn’t want it to disappear.”

It’s believed the horror crash has heavily impacted several members of the production crew who witnessed it unfold.
A source explained to The Mail on Sunday: “The scenes were awful, something you would truly want to unsee.
“The idea of returning to do that kind of work again for some people is just too much.
“It has been a terribly hard time for everyone involved in the crash. Some are still struggling with it so have been signed off work.”

However, when approached by Express.co.uk about people being signed off, the BBC denied the claims.
Speaking about the series coming to a pause in light of the crash, the chief content officer of the BBC , Charlotte Moore, stated it would be “inappropriate” to resume filming.
At the Broadcasting Press Guild event, she said: “My priority at the moment is supporting Freddie through his recovery.
“I think we’ve got to talk about what Freddie wants to do. When someone’s in recovery, I don’t think we would push that. I think that would be really inappropriate, I wouldn’t be happy.
“I think you’ve got to be really human about this and do the right thing.”
