The late-night TV host previously faced backlash for laying on the stage during Quinta’s acceptance speech, with one person fuming, ‘She’ll never get that moment back and he can never make it up to her.’
AceShowbiz –Jimmy Kimmel has addressed his headline-making antics at the 2022 Emmy Awards. The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host was playing dead during Quinta Brunson‘s speech, and now he acknowledges that what he did was “weird.”
The 54-year-old offered his two cents when speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Walt Disney Emmys Afterparty. “I thought nothing of it,” he stated. “It was one of the weirdest things that has ever happened to me.”
Jimmy, however, proved that he didn’t mean to be disrespectful to Quinta. Gushing over the “Abbott Elementary” star, he said, “She is so unbelievably talented.”
“And I saw her pilot before it came out on ABC, and I wrote to her, and I was like, ‘I don’t know how we got this, but congratulations. You made a pilot that any network would be ecstatic to get,’ ” he recalled. “She’s a lovely person as well.”
At the Monday, September 12 event, Quinta won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Her category was presented by Jimmy and Will Arnett, who quipped that the late-night TV host “got into the skinny margaritas” after losing in an earlier category.
After Quinta was announced as the winner, Jimmy stayed flat on the ground near the microphone stand, prompting her to exclaim, “Jimmy, wake up. I won!” However, Jimmy remained there until Quinta finished her speech. After nearly two minutes, Will finally pulled Jimmy’s body offstage.
Jimmy has since faced backlash over his action, with one person in particular arguing, “He is such a jerk. She’ll never get that moment back and he can never make it up to her. He just needs to quit his job already and fade away.” Though so, Quinta made it clear that she wasn’t bothered by what has happened.
“I don’t know I know Jimmy Kimmel. The bit didn’t bother me,” she pointed out backstage. “Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot, he was one of the first people to see ‘Abbott Elementary’.”
“He was the first person to message me on Instagram. He was so excited it was going to be on ABC. I was happy it was Jimmy. He’s one of the comedy godfathers,” the actress added. She then joked, “Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face.”
