Sandra Flaherty (Joanne Mitchell) is already causing quite a bit of trouble in the Emmerdale village.
Following her return, Sandra told daughter Liv (Isobel Steele) and Vinny (Bradley Johnson) that she’s in desperate need of some cash.
Sandra had come up against a dodgy man called Terry, who she really needed to pay back.
Knowing Liv has a lot of money in her bank, Sandra’s eyes lit up when she manipulated her daughter into helping.
There was always going to be more to Sandra’s return, as we recently learnt she isn’t in trouble at all – she wants to rinse Liv.
Elsewhere, keeping up the façade, Sandra has also started working at the salon with Mandy (Lisa Riley).
Definitely not interested in painting nails or manicures, Sandra has occupied herself by stealing cash from the tip jar.
While Sandra is sly and sneaky, her paranoia starts to grow soon when she realises there’s a hidden camera in the salon.
As Mandy grows suspicious, we know this secret won’t be one Sandra can keep forever, as Joanne Mitchell is looking forward to filming the upcoming showdown between the two contrasting characters:
‘I am so looking forward to it! And Bernice for good measure, because she’s fantastic as well. It’s so much fun because there’s so much to play with’, she told us.
Reflecting on the moment Sandra finds that secret camera, Joanne said: ‘It’s worrying for her and I think it does play on her mind because I think she sees Mandy as a very strong, formidable character who is very influential with Vinny, obviously, and with Liv. So she’s got to keep her on her side and I think that’s worrying for her and it plays on Sandra’s mind.
‘It’s not destroyed her; she’ll always find a way out. This woman is a survivor so she will find a way of turning it all around and she’s confident enough in herself to do that – which is exactly what she does. She tries to win her around in other ways.’
‘I think she might have underestimated Mandy’, the actress adds.
‘I think she does know of her and who she is before she comes to the village. She doesn’t know enough about her but from living with Liv and working at the salon she’s watching all the time; she’s watching how much influence she has.’
‘If someone finds her out, she’ll think of the answer and she’ll come up with some sort of statement that will hopefully get her out of trouble. She’s bold!’
