Anton du Beke shares he was stabbed by his father

Kate Garraway outed Anton Du Beke’s fib on Wednesday’s instalment of Life Stories on ITV.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge was detailing the many jobs he’s had over the years to fund his dancing career.

One of which was a mattress seller as the show cut to Anton’s former boss who told the audience how the 57-year-old taught him some dance moves to impress his now wife.

Praising his former boss, Anton said: “He is about the nicest man I’ve ever met in my entire life.

“He got into my car one day and I’ve got all these parking fines sitting in the passenger seat. He said, ‘What’s all this?’

“I said they’re parking fines, I’m not paying them. Anyway, he scooped them all up and paid them for me.”

Touched by the sweet gesture, Anton called him the nicest man in the world once again before Kate questioned what happened after. She said: “Have you paid him back?”

Hesitating, the Strictly star looked away from the host, best known for hosting Good Morning Britain, briefly before replying: “Yes.”

The audience burst into laughter and started to applaud as they realised Anton wasn’t being completely honest.

Pointing directly at her guest, Kate screamed: “That’s a lie! That is a lie.”

Anton replied: “I taught him how to dance! That’s priceless.”

Along with being a mattress seller at one point in his life, viewers learnt Anton was once a baker and painter and decorator, although he confessed that job lasted a week.

Laughing, he admitted: “I was the worst painter and decorator in the world.

“Somebody would say, ‘Go up the ladder and paint that,’ I couldn’t.

“I was scared of heights, I was painting my hand and I wouldn’t let go of the ladder. I’ve had every job you could possibly think about, but all to fund dancing.”
