Sad news: Bachelor Nation couple Katie Thurston and John Hersey are no longer together. Katie shared the relationship update last night with a cryptic Insta story that initially confused fans, writing “Statement: no we aren’t together.”
While she didn’t provide further details, John followed up with a statement of his own several hours later and confirmed that they had, in fact, broken up.
“I love being able to share special moments with you all—the funny ones. The happy ones. The outrageous, embarrassing, and heartfelt ones. But I don’t know if it will ever get easier to share the sad ones,” John wrote. “As Katie stated earlier, we are no longer dating. The decision was not made lightly, and it was obviously not an easy one to make.”
He ended his post saying, “I appreciate every one of you that has supported us throughout this journey. We could not (and would not) be here without you.”
Katie and John went public with their relationship in November 2021 during the final installment of Katie’s “12 Days of Messy” challenge (where she paired Bachelorette contestants with various Taylor Swift songs). She later explained that “John’s role I think grew, the closer we got to the last day. Initially, it was gonna be very like lighthearted. It was like, ‘Oh, we’ll just share a picture. It’ll just be a picture from the show.’ I wanted to really show that to me, John is my world. John is handsome. John is romantic. John is everything and I wanted to make a really big, grand gesture to show that.”
At this point neither of them have elaborated on the reason for their breakup, but they seemed to be going strong as of two weeks ago, when John posted a video of Katie and her cat to his Instagram:
