When Neighbours announced it was being axed after 37 years on screen, fans were left devastated. Producers promised the show would go out with a bang and they welcomed back a host of previous stars to Ramsey Street for the final episodes. Famous faces that returned to the show included pop princess Kylie Minogue, West End star Jason Donovan and Hollywood stars Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie.

However, less than a year after being cancelled, Amazon Freevee announced that they were resurrecting the soap.

While fans are thrilled that it will bring back many of the returning stars, it has been reported that not all of the cast are as happy about it.

Sources in Melbourne, where the show was filmed, have claimed Kylie in particular feels “duped” after returning.

“Kylie has apparently got a bit of the hump about it all,” an insider told Mail On Sunday.

“It’s a case of why did she and others make the effort to go back.”

“She and the others were told it was the end,” they continued.

“She knows what she owes to Neighbours and she would have always done it, but it does all seem a little baffling.”

The return of Kylie and Jason as legendary characters Scott and Charlene Mitchell was one of the hugely hyped aspects of the final episode.

As two of the show’s most popular characters in its 80s heyday, almost 20 million people tuned into their wedding.

Both stars launched pop careers off the back of the show with Kylie becoming a global icon.

Jason’s pop career was more short-lived than his co-star, but he has enjoyed a hugely successful career in theatre since making his West End debut in 1991 in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Kylie isn’t the only star reportedly disgruntled by returning for the final episodes.

Hollywood star Guy Pierce who has starred in films such as LA Confidential and Iron Man 3 also returned to Ramsay Street for the final three episodes. He reprised his role as Mike Young for the first time in over three decades much to the delight of fans.

However, he now seems bemused by the revival after he made pointed remarks about it at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards in December last year.

“It’s hard to watch, isn’t it? Knowing we’ll never see another episode ever again,” he said as part of the evening’s tribute to the show.

“A painful reminder the things we love can be snatched away, never to return … unless Amazon comes in to save the day and makes our finale look like a rather expensive exercise,” he pointedly stated.

For their part, Amazon has denied having any intention to reboot the show before the finale was broadcast.

Despite the mixed feelings about the finales, Stefan Dennis who plays Paul Robinson in the show seems to think that another return of classic stars is a possibility.

Last week he told Good Morning Britain we should “never say never” to a return of Kylie and some of the star’s biggest names from years gone by. “Look what’s happened with the show,” he teased.
