Morning Live presenter Kym opened up on a backstage “meltdown” she had before last Saturday’s live BBC show while talking to former Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara on spin-off series, It Takes Two. The former Coronation Street actress reflected on difficulties she had faced in training, which made her determined to get back to the ballroom and “have fun”.

Kym and partner Graziano Di Prima joined Janette on the It Takes Two sofa on Thursday to discuss how their dance experience is going so far and how it felt to have been in the dreaded dance-off.

Former Strictly professional Janette remarked: “So we need to talk about this. That Quickstep was quick!

“I mean, have you recovered from the speed of that?” Saturday saw the duo taking on a speedy routine to mark the BBC’s 100th anniversary.

Laughing, Kym replied: “Just about, yeah! It was fast, wasn’t it? I said, ‘Turns out the Quickstep’s quick!'”

She went on to add: “But do you know what? We had so much fun.

“After having a day of a bit of a meltdown, I got on there and I just thought, ‘Do you know what? Let’s just have fun.’

“And we did and we went out and just enjoyed ourselves, didn’t we?”

“We had the best time,” Graziano answered. “Especially when they called our name after.

“It’s not easy coming back to the studio after being in the bottom two, and when they called Kym and Graziano, I think I screamed my lungs out.”

Talking about performing last, Kym stated: “Closing the show is nothing to be taken lightly.

“So we were delighted, obviously, to be given that honour, and we just wanted to go out and give it our best shot, really.

“So yeah, it was a bit of a scary moment in the results show.”

“But Graziano gave me the biggest squeeze, which I didn’t really appreciate because I’ve got a rib injury still, so.”

“You hurt her out of joy!” Janette exclaimed, to which the Italian choreographer admitted: “Yeah, in that moment I didn’t realise, but if I think now, I hear ‘ow, ow.'”

Opening up on her busy schedule and how it sometimes causes her to lose confidence in herself, Kym later told Janette: “sometimes it’s hard because there’s a lot going on in my life, there’s a lot of things.

“There’s Waterloo Road, there’s Morning Live, there’s my family – there’s a lot of things going on and then you have to take on board learning dances and travelling and everything else.

“And sometimes you can let your head go into a place… and actually, today I managed to get myself out of that – on my own!”

This weekend, the couple will be dancing the rumba for the Halloween special.

Halloween Week sees the couples and the judges donning spooky outfits complete with masks, makeup and hairspray to mark the festivities.

Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes two continues on Friday at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
