Lionel Richie’s Coronation gig leaves fans begging ‘switch off mic’

Coronation concert viewers begged producers to “switch off” Lionel Richie’s microphone as he took to the stage on Sunday night.

Fans were less than impressed with the chart-topping hitmaker’s performance of Easy and All Night Long.

“Why is Lionel Richie meowing,” tweeted viewer @MsSWhiskey.

While others suggested he simply “couldn’t sing live any more”.

@Nikton1 commented: “What happened to Lionel’s voice?”

Sharing a picture of Prince Louis with his hands covering his ears, @amazonvacations wrote: “Inner ears issues or just can no longer do it?

“Lionel Richie sorry but that sounded terrible #CoronationConcert.”

While @northernsoul99 commented: “Why doesn’t Lionel Richie sound like Lionel Richie? #CoronationConcert.”

Another clip appeared to show Queen Camilla looking uninterested.

With @absolutegazelle tweeting: “I don’t think Camilla’s enjoying Lionel Richie’s performance…”

Earlier in the night, Prince William poked fun at Lionel during his speech.

The Prince of Wales thanked guests for the “special evening” which aired on TV on Sunday.

Seemingly taking a playful swipe at Hello hitmaker Lionel, William made light of his performance with a cleverly-crafted comment.

Addressing the audience, the King’s eldest son said: “A huge thank you to everyone for making this such a special evening.”

William went on to joke: “But don’t worry, unlike Lionel, I won’t go on all night long.”

Coronation Concert can be watched on BBC iPlayer.
