Loose Women Janet slams Madonna’s sexy tour outfits as she says ‘give it a rest’

The Loose Women studio was reduced to fits of laughter on Monday (October 16) after panelist Janet Street-Porter made an hilarious quip about pop superstar Madonna.

Janet joined co-stars Ruth Langsford Kelle Bryan and Brenda Edwards for the latest instalment of the ITV show, which kicked off with a segment titled "Should pop stars act their age?" Quoting a headline from the Daily Mail, Ruth opened the chat by asking the ladies if it was time for 65-year old Madge to "grow up".

Brenda answered first, declaring that the author of the Mail article must have been "jealous" as Madonna is "fabulous" and "entitled" to do as she pleases. Ruth agreed, adding that she has tickets to see the Like A Virgin star and compared her to Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, who continue to defy age.

Janet, 76, added: "Mick's 80 now. It takes a huge amount of work to stay that fit." She was less than complimentary about Madonna – 15 years his junior, however.

"She's a brilliant entertainer, but she's not my cup of tea," Janet began. "I've been watching this Queens of Hip Hop series thing on the tele and I'd rather go and see Cardi B or Nicki Minaj – I really would.

"I just find they're the right age to do it but I find Madonna thrashing around in bondage gear and think 'Oh love just give it a rest'." Ruth replied: "But she can still get her leg up there, it's wonderful."

After Kelle added that "some artists should hang their microphones up" because their voices can no longer cut it, Janet interjected: "Yeah but Madonna was never known for her voice anyway!" Janet then compared Madonna to Taylor Swift, explaining that the reason the latter is the most popular artist in the world at present and has so much appeal is because she is "not outrageous" and the opposite to Madonna.

One viewer took to X (formerly Twitter) to largely agree with Janet's opinion, commenting: "Agree with @The_Real_JSP on Madonna, but I've heard her slaughter the Stones before for the same. Worst thing about Madonna is the way she's butchered her face in the usual tragic attempt to look 'young'. Always looks terrible & pathetic. #loosewomen."

It comes after fans expressed their concerns for Madonna's health last week after she was pictured on Instagram looking completely different in a series of new snaps. After spending several days in hospital, she was eventually discharged with plump lips and chiselled cheekbones.

Fans rushed to social media to comment on the worrying picture, with one penning: "She’s got the wrong doctor giving her filler in the wrong places – all that money and she can’t get it right." Another added: "Jesus what happened to her?"

A third chipped in: "Her lips look painful." And a fourth said: "People need to stop injecting their faces." Following her health scare, Madonna was forced to postpone the start of her highly-anticipated Celebration world tour, which marked 40 years since her debut self-titled album was released.

She posted a statement on Instagram, explaining the situation: "Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement," she said. "I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.

"My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone. My focus is now my health and getting stronger and I can assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!"

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
