Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan reveals she spends ‘£12-14k a year’ on smoking

Loose Women viewers were left shocked when panellist Coleen Nolan confessed that she spends a fortune on smoking each year.

The former singer, 57, appeared on today 12 October's episode where she, Kéllé Bryan, Jane Moore, and Christine Lampard discussed the topic of healthcare.

As the panel began to talk about smoking, they pondered not only the physical but the financial issues than can be caused by this addiction.

Coleen was then asked how much money she would save if she quit smoking. Replying to this question she made the shock confession that she spends over £10,000 per year on this habit.

She said: "It's very expensive. The cigarettes that I smoke up north – well I smoke them down south as well – to buy a pack up north is £15 a packet.

"To buy them in London it's £20. I worked it out recently that if I stopped smoking, in a year I'd probably save between £12,000 to £14,000."

Shocked viewers took to social media to express concern for Coleen, with some trying to work out how many cigarettes she must be smoking per day to reach this rather high spending amount.

One concerned viewer posted: "Colleen Nolan just stated she would save between £12k-£14k a year if she stopped smoking. That's, on average, £35 a day. Does she smoke 50 cigarettes daily in that case? A huge number! #loosewomen #smoking #cigarettes"

Another asked: "What brand fags are you smoking Colleen??!"

While a third wrote: "Is my maths failing me or is that Coleen saying she smokes like 40/50 fags a day?"

A fourth voiced concern for Collen's family, writing: "Nolan’s taking an exceptionally silly risk , smoking when there is obviously a tendency towards cancer in her family. Don’t do that to them, they love you."

Others discussed the topic amongst themselves with some arguing that smoking should be banned, while others pointed out that alcohol is legal and can be just as bad as smoking.

Today's Loose Women also saw Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas discuss how some viewers of the popular dancing show had branded her as "sexist" based on her scoring.

Appearing on the daytime talk show, Shirley, 62, said: "Sometimes when you watch your TV screen, you only see half of what I'm seeing.

"I have to judge what I like… it's a tough industry and it always get a bit emotional.

"I do read everything [online] but I think it's quite important… it is really hurtful, some of the language is so explicit, it's unfathomable."
