Loose Womens Janet slams young people who are obsessed with drinking water

Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter has slammed young people for being "obsessed" with their water intake while criticising the "nanny state" for telling us to drink more amid the 40C heatwave.

After Britain hit new heights of hot this week, some places saw temperatures soar above 40 degrees Celsius.

Urged to stay hydrated and drink lots of clear fluids, today's Loose Women (July 20) saw the panel of ladies discuss their own water intake.

Coleen Nolan was all for drinking lots, while the likes of Janet Street-Porter was against people being "obsessed" with their "water journey".

"I do think there's a kind of water worship going on, that's absolutely obscene," Janet fumed.

She went on to slam the authorities by saying: "Once again it is the nanny state telling us, holding up that bottle of water."

"You don't need to carry the water around, and I do think that young people are unnecessarily influenced by all these people on social media," she added.

"Obsessed with their water journey," she fumed.

She then opened up about her own habits by saying: "So my water journey is to drink water out of the tap when I feel a bit dehydrated."

Coleen then opened up about how she became a water convert, explaining how she got into the habit of drinking more by sipping from a bottle.

"I cannot tell you the difference I felt. My hair was better, my nails were better," she gushed.

Viewers at home were quick to get a word in on the discussion too, with one taking to Twitter to pen: "Christ, Janet's annoyed by young people drinking water."

A second asked: "Not the Loose Women genuinely debating whether or not it's important to drink lots of water… How's that program still on air?"

While a third added: "@loosewomen you have chatted some s**t this morning.

"Janet saying only drink water when thirsty?! Water is the most important thing in the body.

"Blood cells need it to reproduce," before adding something about a previous segment on sunbeds: "also sunbeds are needed and there will never be a ban."

And a fourth said: "100% agree with Colleen , water clears the skin beautifully & cheaply."
