Lorraine reveals Anne Reid age in bingo terms despite promise
Baffled Lorraine viewers were left asking, “Why would you?” after host Lorraine Kelly went against “national treasure” Anne Reid’s wishes during an interview on her show.
The Scottish presenter admitted actress Anne didn’t want her age disclosed during the chat but went on to reveal she was 88 anyway.
Seconds after the awkward moment, fans flocked to social media to fume over Lorraine’s decision to ignore the star.
Twitter user @Noahsmummy2017 penned: “If looks could kill. Not pleased you said her age and why would you?!! #lorraine.”
@fuzzybeepants added: “Lorraine: Anne doesn’t want me to mention her age, but if this were bingo it’d be 2 fat ladies. Anne:… #lorraine.” (sic)

Meanwhile, others applauded the former Coronation Street star’s appearance as @SylviaHopper1 commented: “#Lorraine How lovely to have Anne Reid on your show today. She really is a national treasure. Can’t believe she’s 88. Love her.”

Anne detailed her role in the new drama and as the interview concluded, Lorraine told her: “Enjoy every single second, cocktails – yes, exactly.
“You would be great fun to have cocktails with. The Sixth Commandment continues tonight, 9 o’clock on BBC One.”
The presenter couldn’t help but add: “And I promised Anne I wouldn’t say her age, but all I will say is if you play bingo – two fat ladies, that’s all I’m saying.”
Anne glared at Lorraine uncertainly as the host concluded: “Ok, Anne, thank you.”
In bingo lingo, two fat ladies is the term for the number 88, so Lorraine’s remark betrayed Anne’s trust.
Some viewers believed Anne’s response indicated she wasn’t pleased, but the actress smiled and thanked the presenter as the chat concluded.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
