EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley has shared her sadness after the news broke that her character Karen Taylor was being written out of the BBC soap.
Taking to Instagram, she posted a video from Australian comedy Summer Heights High, showing drama teacher Mr G during his final day at work, comparing it to her last day.
In the caption, she thanked the team at EastEnders for the opportunity and fans for their well wishes, as well as sending love to her on screen family.
‘Hey everyone! I’m so grateful for all of your lovely messages this past week,’ she wrote.
‘Thank you to Daran Little for creating the Taylors and to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to play such a fabulous character, I’ll be sad to be saying goodbye to Karen Taylor and will miss all the cast and crew at EastEnders.
‘However I’m looking forward to my next chapter and excited about being a jobbing Actor again & starting new ventures.
‘Again your kind words of support have been amazing!!! I’m going to miss my Taylor/Baker famalam Clair Norris, Danny Walters, Roger Griffiths and Matthew Morrison. Much love.’
Her co-stars rushed to the comments to share their words of support, with Eve Unwin actress Heather Peace writing: ‘We will miss you very much. Here’s to new adventures lovely one.’
‘We will miss you very much,’ Jaden Ladega, who plays Denzel Danes, said.
Fans were also quick to share their love, with a number questioning the show’s choice to axe the character.
‘Karen is such a big character and you play her so well. Good luck with your new adventure,’ one said.
‘Gonna miss Karen. Such a funny character always made me laugh,’ another wrote, while a third added: ‘We’ll miss you Lorraine. I’ve so enjoyed you and Karen over the past years. You were incredible during Chantelle’s storyline. Much love.’
Lorraine took on the role of matriarch Karen in 2017 and has been at the centre of some hard hitting storylines, including one which saw her reel from the death of daughter Chantelle at the hands of abusive husband Gray Atkins.
It is not yet clear how Karen will depart the Square, though a number of theories are already flying around.
While some believe she may be killed off, others wonder if she may leave the Square broken hearted. After all, son Keanu (Danny Walters) is at the top of many fans’ list of suspects to be killed off at Christmas.
However she leaves, we will certainly miss her.
