Viewers were left fuming after mums and dads were not allowed to hug their children due to social distancing rules during Love Island's Meet the Parents segment last night (Sunday)

The penultimate episode of the ITV2 show saw the islanders reunite with their family members in the villa for a brief reunion.

However, they were forced to send air hugs rather than get physical with their offspring amid efforts to stop the transition of coronavirus. Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page 's parents were the first to walk through the doors.

Viewers took to Twitter to complain about the social distancing rule, with one person writing: "Wait why can't they touch each other? They're literally breathing the same air." Another added: "As if they're not allowed to hug, that's so sad man."

A third viewer stated: "I'd be livid if I couldn't hug my parents after two months," while another commented: "Nah the whole social distancing has made it so weird." ITV confirmed that the islanders weren't allowed to hug their family members to prevent the transmission of Covid and to protect the contestants before the live final today (Monday).

In last night's show, viewers watched as Paige Thorne 's mum expressed doubts about her daughter's partner, Adam Collard. She told the paramedic that she was "more herself" when she was coupled with Jacques O'Neill, who decided to leave the villa earlier this month.

Adam broke down in tears in the Beach Hut, overwhelmed with his father's praise of Paige. He said: "She's unreal and makes me feel like I'm on top of the world."

Later, Indiyah Polack 's mum and Shak, her sister, grilled Dami Hope, questioning him about his three-way kiss during Casa Amor. He told them he was "just being an immature guy", to which Shak replied: "She wasn't moving wild like you were."

It was all love between Ekin-Su and Davide 's camp as their families were impressed with their relationship. As the show was ending, four couples faced the axe – and it was Adam and Paige who had the least number of votes from the villa and were dumped. One of the final four couples will now be crowned the winners of Love Island 2022 and take home the £50,000 prize.
