Love Island star claims host has no autonomy as Maya Jama quits presenting job

One former Love Island finalist has confessed that he doesn't think presenters of the ITV2 dating show get "a lot of autonomy" – as Maya Jama has found so much success on the show that she has quit a rival BBC presenting job.

Maya handed her notice in to BBC show Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star after taking on presenting duties in 2021.

A source claimed to The Sun: "Maya loved her time hosting Glow Up for the last two series but has decided now not to return for another run.

“It was a really difficult decision, but she’s going to be really busy doing two series of Love Island this year and couldn’t make it work.

“She’s also gone down such a storm on Love Island that demand for her has gone through the roof and her diary outside of filming the show is absolutely jam-packed."

And now former Love Island 2021 star Tyler Cruickshank has opened up about the difficulty of a Love Island presenter's job, after ex-host Laura Whitmore quit last year.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star about Maya, he said: "From what I’ve seen she has good energy. She always has that chat and energy about her anyways – not saying that Laura didn’t. Laura was great in her own right!

"What a lot of people need to remember is, you probably wouldn’t get a lot of autonomy presenting for an organisation [like ITV].

"You probably have a script that you have to follow to a certain extent as a presenter – like maybe you’re reading off a prompter and you get to put your own flavour on it, your own twist," he confessed.

"So Laura was great in her own right but maybe she was restricted, in a sense. I don’t know. From what I’m seeing with Maya I think she’s doing a great job," Tyler added.

The star also confessed which 2023 Islanders he has his eye on – and might be sliding into Tanyel Revan and Olivia Hawkins' DMs when they leave the villa.

He confessed: "Tanyel is a nice looking girl, and Olivia looks like a nice looking girl.

"In terms of personality, I can’t fault any of them really. What people need to remember is, you’re only seeing an hour out of the whole day.

"You’re not necessarily going to get all their personalities from that one hour, you need to wait until they come out and really start talking," he explained.
