Love Island’s Wes says islanders develop ‘game-show mentality’ to bag £50k prize

Former Love Island contestant Wes Nelson believes the current islanders have a "game-show mentality" that's controlling their behaviour as this season of the popular dating show comes to an end.

Speaking on Capital Xtra's breakfast show, Wes said: "People are getting into the 'game-show' mentality, I think coming back to it, like, 'Oh wait, actually, we're really close to the final now. I want to secure that £25k, I can smell the PLT deal, it's a week away'."

Fast fashion brand PrettyLittleThing, who's creative director is former Love Island bombshell Molly-Mae Hague, have already set their sights on Indiyah Polack, taking to Twitter to ask customers whether Indiyah should become one of their "PLTDolls".

Dropping more hints, PrettyLittleThing founder and CEO Umar Kamani has followed Indiyah and Gemma Owen on Instagram this week.

Having hit a million followers on Instagram, Gemma, Jacques O'Neill and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu are set to have brands at their doorsteps wanting to sign them for partnerships.

However, the show still has three episodes left (as of 29th July) and 2017 winner Kem Cetinay says £50k prize money is the last thing on the stars' minds.

Speaking on Love Island: The Morning After podcast, Kem recalled his winning moment: "I actually forgot about the envelope once I won. I forgot there was £50k."

"It's not constantly spoken about, it's something that happens at the end and I reckon that happens for most people," he said.

Siding with Kem's perspective, Wes went on to say that "some" couples probably thinking about their new-found romance and settling down.

He said: "It seems like there's certain people who are like, 'Oh, we're so happy, we're all good now, I never should've doubted you, we're the strongest in it'."

Both former islanders agreed on idea of the islanders feeling ready to venture out as the final week is in full swing.

"You have no concept of time in there but you start thinking about it and you're like 'wow, I'm actually right next to the final,'" Kem recalled.

Wes revealed he was bored and "itching to get out" once final week hit.

"I was sort of camping out on the day beds and getting told to get up and do stuff," he said. "It gets boring eventually."
