Love Island’s Yewande Biala hoping to have her first orgasm on TV

Love Island: Kai and Sanam announced as winners

Yewande Biala is best known for her appearance on Love Island in 2019 but the biochemist and author with two degrees will be exploring orgasms in her new documentary for Channel 4.

Explaining the series, Secrets of the Female Orgasm, the broadcaster explained: “She is articulate, charismatic and outwardly confident.

“But like as many as one in eight women, she’s missing one big thing in her life –being able to orgasm.”

Yewande was brought up in a strict Catholic family and has struggled with anxiety and shame about sex. She didn’t know women could orgasm until she was 19 or 20.

In Secrets of the Female Orgasm, she meets other women, scientists and therapists to hear their stories, research and advice.

Yewande will attempt to learn everything there is to know about the complexity of the female orgasm in a bid to experience one herself for the first time.

Speaking at the broadcaster’s Content Showcase, Channel 4’s Chief Content Officers Ian Katz said of the documentary: “Of course it wouldn’t be a proper Channel 4 launch without a taboo-busting film about sex.

“So I’m delighted to announce we’ll be airing Secrets of the Female Orgasm. A sensitive film exploring why one in eight women can’t climax.

“It’s presented by biochemist and former Love Island contestant Yewande Biala, who is one of those in one in eight and sets out to find out everything she can about the female orgasm to in a bid to experience one herself.”

Addressing backlash about the channel’s focus on sex and nudity, he added: “Channel 4 is occasionally well quite often accused of being overly interested in sex but I believe we play a unique role in the broadcast environment thoughtfully tacking issues that preoccupy so many of our viewers, particularly our younger viewers, which most broadcasters or streamers are too squeamish to explore.

“Secrets of the Female Orgasm is as important a piece of educational piece of broadcasting you’ll see on any channel this year.”

Love Island fans will no doubt be thrilled to see Yewande back on screens and exploring the interesting and intimate topic.

The documentary is just one of many new programmes announced by Channel 4, which also included The Climate Emergency Season, No Strings Attached, and a new series of Open House: The Great Sex Experiment.

Secrets of the Female Orgasm will air on Channel 4 later this year.
