Married At First Sight star Brad Skelly has spoken out in a YouTube video and claimed the "suffocating" experiment showed the "worst side" of him, following him being axed from the E4 show.
Producers at the programme became concerned by Brad's actions towards his wife, Shona Manderson, after some tense scenes, leading producers to tell the couple that they needed to leave the experiment.
The move comes after scenes last week, which appeared to show Brad telling Shona to "shut up." 27 year old Brad also claimed that he "allowed" his new wife to feel all of the emotions that she wanted to, as their relationship had hit a few bumps in the road.
Brad has now sat down in a three minute YouTube video, titled My explanation, and publicly apologised, before going into detail about his actions on the show.
Brad said: "I am experiencing some heavy flows of hatred and malice from people who have evidently built up a very very strong opinion of me. Please open up to the fact that you are all judging me based on some very very short snippets from hours and hours of filming, dramatised for the highest form of entertainment."
The star continued and said: "As you can see on the show, I am extremely low and flat. That resulted in a very unhappy person within a very suffocating and testing period, and this is no excuse for how I acted at all, but it most definitely had an effect, resulting in certain frustrations being amplified and becoming the focus of the show."
Although Brad was labelled as "controlling" by Women's Aid, in his YouTube video he stated: "I have never had the need or desire to control anybody in my entire life”.
The MAFS star went on to say that he feels he has been "misunderstood" and portrayed on the show by his "worst parts".
A Channel 4 spokesperson told OK! : "The couple’s exit plays out in the show. It was agreed alongside experts Paul, Mel and Charlene that the intensive Married at First Sight environment was not working for the couple and it was the right time to leave the experiment. The relationships on Married at First Sight UK are closely monitored off screen, by production and an independent psychologist.
"If any of the relationships develop in a way that is deemed to be potentially unhealthy for either party, we would take expert psychological advice as to whether it was time for them to leave the process. The welfare of all contributors on Married at First Sight UK is our top priority and we ensure that appropriate support is available to contributors at all times during filming, including 24/7 access to a member of the welfare team or psych support."
