Married At First Sight UK's matchmaker Paul Brunson has revealed he thinks this year's series of the E4 show has the "strongest" and "most diverse" cast yet.

The hunky love doctor, who also guides celebs through the world of love on Channel 4's Celebs Go Dating, admitted MAFS attracts complaints from viewers who think the stars simply 'want to be on TV'.

However, it seems he's confident that this year's lineup will blow fans out of the water and shut down the haters.

The hit E4 programme sees brave singletons take a leap of faith in marrying total strangers on our TV screens.

Each year, a new cast of hopeless romantics walk down the aisle together before making a lifelong commitment to one another in a fairytale ceremony.

The glamorous TV weddings often promise heaps of drama as the newly-weds are joined by their families and friends, who don't always approve of them tying the knot with someone they've never met.

The episodes see the brides and grooms perform their first dance as a couple, give emotional speeches and head off to their honeymoon, which is the first time they get to really know about each other.

Fans can look forward to watching weekly dinner parties and regular commitment ceremonies, where the couples decide whether they want to stay with their partner or ditch them.

The epic series finale piles the pressure on each couple who must decide if they wish to pursue their new marriage or part ways for the foreseeable future.

As the cast for the highly-anticipated 2022 series has now been released, fans might be wondering what the show's matchmaking team think of their clients.

Paul spoke exclusively to Daily Star about this year's stars during the casting process, where it was clear he was already thrilled with the results.

Offering what he called his "scoop", he said: "I’d say from so far, from the interviews so far. It is going to be our strongest cast and most diverse in terms of a true cross-section of the UK."

He later responded to a major criticism some fans have of MAFS and Celebs Go Dating.

Paul went on: "I think a big complaint that not only MAFS but CGD [Celebs Go Dating] gets it as well. It’s thought to only cast a certain type of person. A person who just wants to be on TV, just wants to get their Instagram popped up.

"This cast is going to be a true cross-section of people with different backgrounds, different ethnicity, different everything. It’s going to be an incredible cast."

This year's series of MAFS will return to screens in the autumn with a fresh batch of singletons that include a former Miss Great Britain and a Dreamboys dancer.
