Maryland backlash as ITV viewers blast dreary and slow Suranne Jones drama

Gentleman Jack: Suranne Jones discusses same-sex relationship

The three-part drama Maryland stars BAFTA award-winning actress Suranna Jones who also created the ITV series.

The drama centres around the lives of two sisters, Becca (played by Suranne Jones) and Rosaline (Eve Best) who are united under tragic circumstances.

In the opening episode, viewers discovered their mother had been found dead on a beach before later realising she was living a double life.

Grease icon Stockard Channing plays a character called Cathy who is their late mum’s larger-than-life friend who gives them an insight into their mum’s past.

Fans were left eager to learn more about the mum’s secrets as well as what the sisters were hiding after the first instalment of the drama aired.

In episode two, Becca and Rosaline were left stunned after revelations about the circumstances surrounding their mum’s death came in thick and fast.

The final episode of the limited series will air on Wednesday evening, but many fans have branded the programme “slow” and “dreary”.

Suz Tweeted: “Why do I do this? Start watching a series, not very good or in #Maryland very slow but have to watch the rest to see what happens. Does anyone else do this?” (sic)
