Acting legend and Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman has revealed she’ll be bringing her new partner to this year’s National Television Awards, news that comes two years after her husband’s death.
The Evelyn Plummer actress was married to Guido Castro, who died in 2021 at the age of 84.
While Coronavirus wasn’t the cause of Guido’s death, it is believed he was weakened from it.
Discussing her husband’s final moments, Maureen previously revealed that she wasn’t able to hold Guido’s hand, due to wearing full PPE at his bedside.

‘It is unbelievable to have to say goodbye to somebody with gloves and a pinafore on. It doesn’t bear thinking about’, she told the Mirror at the time.
‘He survived Covid in a care home. But he didn’t really survive’.
Now, Maureen has been speaking about connecting with a man called David. She has revealed how happy she is to be spending time with him, and is even bringing him along to the National Television Awards, which airs tomorrow (September 5) on ITV at 7:30pm.
‘I’m going with my gentleman friend David’, she told the Sunday Express.
‘It’s a gift for all concerned. It’s a gift and he’s been very nice. I’ve met some nice men in my life, some really interesting men, and we will see where it goes.’
Maureen has been nominated for Serial Drama Performance at the NTAs.
Most recently, Evelyn has faced a dramatic ordeal after coming across her drug addict daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) again.
After spending time away from the cobbles so Cassie could attend rehab, Evelyn returned, choosing to take up residence at a flat in the precinct.
However, a determined Cassie made her way to Weatherfield when Evelyn wasn’t around. She found Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and revealed that she’s his biological mother.
Elsewhere, host of the NTAs Joel Dommett previously spoke to us about his reaction when he was asked to present the glamourous award ceremony again:
‘I find myself very annoying. So to be invited back for a third time, I find an absolute joy,’ he shared.
‘It’s a huge huge night entirely and I like it feels like a big old party and I’m just basically the master of ceremonies and guiding it from port to port throughout the evening.
‘I just love looking at all the people having a really fun time in the audience and hopefully everyone at home having a fun time too.’
