HOLLYOAKS actress Steph Davis has revealed she has topical withdrawal syndrome leaving her with a "painful" inflamed face.

The former soap star, 29, took to her Instagram Stories for a candid video in which she confessed she had been left "dead upset" by her condition.


Steph explained how after her skin was bad a year ago, her doctors "palmed me off"with topical steroids.

She told how her body had become "basically addicted" to the cream before she pointed out the cuts and split skin on her face.

She continued: "When your body stops taking it your skin flares up really bad and I've just been having so many flare ups.

"I've been to the hospital having therapy and in the sun the other day with sun cream my face just went 'whoo' even worse.

"It's so crusty and painful in the morning I can't even turn my neck, and my eyelids are pulled down," before pulling on her eye to demonstrate.

She added: "My eyelids are cut on top and weeping.

"I am basically like a scaly snake."

The mum of one added how the redness had now spread to other areas of her body including her groin.

After confessing she has an "uncontrollable itch" and wakes up "scratching myself to death" Steph told fans she would be coming off all medication in an attempt to rid it from her body.

The Celebrity Big Brother star bravely admitted: "I've cried because I feel so unattractive – my face is distorted.

"My face is just so painful at the moment, my skin is so thin.

"I've cried because my eyes are just going to cut open."

Steph, who will now spend a week indoors in an attempt to go cold turkey from all creams and products, rounded up her comments by saying she "doesn't feel pretty any more."

Yet despite her awful predicament, she bravely told how she wanted to raise awareness of the condition, and warned fans to "be careful" about steroids given to them on prescription.

Topical steroid withdrawal is also known as red burning skin and steroid dermatitis.

Symptoms include a burning sensation, itchiness and peeling, as described by Steph.
