Last year, for the first time in the James Bond franchise’s 60 years, they actually killed off 007. Nevertheless, at the end of the credits, the immortal words “James Bond will return” came up, but this is confusing for some fans.

If Bond is dead, how can there be a new Bond? Consider for a moment how Daniel Craig’s 007 only just earned his licence to kill at the start of Casino Royale.

Yet before the 2006 reboot, there were four Pierce Brosnan movies that also starred Judi Dench as M. The way to think about this confusing conundrum is a multiverse.

Last year also saw the release of Spider-Man No Way Home, in which previous Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield crossed realities into Tom Holland’s in the MCU.

So assuming Brosnan and Craig’s Bond adventures took place in different universes, so too will it be for the next actor, even though 007 is currently dead.

However, even more confusingly, No Time To Die Bond girl Léa Seydoux, who played Bond’s lover Madeleine Swann, the mother of his child Mathilde, reckons she can somehow return in the next reboot.

Speaking with Deadline, the 37-year-old said: “After all, I’m not dead. It was James who died, not Madeleine. So, who knows? Maybe I’ll be back.”

Seydoux clarified: “This is like fake news, right? But if we’re serious for a moment, Madeleine drives away with her daughter right at the end because James has saved them. There’ll be a new Bond because Daniel’s Bond died but who’s to say that Madeleine won’t be back?”

Sure, Dench came back as M, but surely she was a new incarnation from another universe, writing off the Brosnan movies?

Wherever the case, Seydoux added: “I haven’t spoken to Barbara about whether or not Madeleine would make an appearance in a future Bond film, a lot has to happen before that stage is reached. This is just idle speculation as we talk on the top of a mountain,” she said referring to our location in the Colorado Rockies.”

To be honest, we’d be very surprised if this happened. But the French star should still be proud of having returned for No Time To Die after Spectre. Very few Bond girls get such an honour.
