Maril Davis On Book 10 And Including Material From The Next Novel
The team behind Outlander is preparing for the beginning of the end of the series.
Although the Hollywood SAG-AFTRA strikes have brought work on the show’s eighth and final season to a halt, Outlander’s executive producer Maril Davis shed some light on the team’s plans for concluding the Starz series after nearly a decade.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Express US, Davis opened up on Outlander wrapping up for good as well as the role of Diana Gabaldon’s novels in relation to the series.
She said: “We’re talking to Diana and certainly if she wants to give us something from book 10, we’ll take it.
“But we want to be respectful of her. We want her to be able to put out that book kind of on her own.

“It would be kind of weird if we played something that she hadn’t published yet. So, that’s kind of a tricky thing.”
Davis went on to say: “Once again, we’ll take it if she gives up stuff. But obviously, we’re on a strike right now, unfortunately.
“But once we get back into the room, once we figure out the whole game plan for season eight, we’re going to run it by her and make sure it works with what she’s planning.”
Reflecting on concluding the show, Davis admitted she’d been left “devastated” Outlander would be finishing with the show being part of her life for a decade – and more once it finally aired its last episode.

The EP also teased what the cast and crew hoped to achieve when the credits rolled on the series finale: “We just want a satisfying, exciting end to the TV show and obviously that’s going to be different to how she ends the books.
“But I think you’re always going to have the books and the TV show just gives you something extra.”
Davis’ words may come as a surprise to some fans given author Gabaldon has always said she plans to end her book series with an emotional meeting between Jamie Fraser’s (played by Sam Heughan) ghost and Claire (Caitríona Balfe).
This could mean, Outlander viewers may have to wait until the writer ends the book series for good before learning about the show’s greatest unanswered question about Jamie’s ghost and what transpires between him and Claire in those last moments of the story.
This is unless Gabaldon decided to share this with the show’s writers but it looks like until the last novel is published fans won’t know for sure either way.
