The late Queen loved chatting to Paul O’Grady
The late Paul O’Grady was remembered in a special documentary by ITV which showed highlights from his career as Lily Savage to his final episodes hosting For the Love of Dogs. One moment saw his close friend Linda Thorson open up about Paul’s relationship with the late Queen as she explained the pair bonded over their love of animals.
In one clip from the documentary, Paul could be seen trying to convince the Queen to adopt a pooch from Battersea.
“He’s a big boy,” Paul told Her Majesty, who replied: “Yes, those dogs do get quite big.”
While the Queen didn’t take the Corgi home, Paul sighed: “He doesn’t need a royal home, he just needs a home.”
Paul’s friend Linda Thorson went on to reveal: “I know the Queen was very at ease with him and he would have tea with her.
“The reason why the Queen liked to have tea with Paul was because so few people knew how to talk to her. Paul could talk to anybody.”
Michael Cashman added: “The Queen loved him and of course all they did was talk about animals and farming. She loved his sense of humour.”
Michael went on to reveal Paul almost landed in trouble with Her Majesty as he fell asleep in the Queen’s bed when at a party in Ireland.
Fortunately the late monarch wasn’t at the party so hopefully never found out about Paul’s antics.
But it wasn’t just the Queen who Paul managed to charm as the new Queen Consort, Camilla, also featured on For the Love of Dogs.
In a royal episode, Camilla accompanied Paul to Battersea Cats and Dogs Home to help care for those waiting to be adopted.
One special moment saw Paul joke about having a timeshare with Camilla as they tried to encourage a puppy to eat.
When it was confirmed Paul had died at the age of 64 last month, Camilla shared her grief in a poignant tribute.
