This Morning has paid an emotional tribute to one of its former presenters who passed away suddenly.

Matty Lock was a regular segment host on the ITV daytime show concerning hoovers and vacuum cleaners.

But Matty's life was cut tragically short over the weekend, when it emerged he had passed away at the age of just 19.

When the news broke, This Morning took to Twitter to offer their condolences to Lock's family.

"Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19," bosses at the show wrote.

"He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious.

"His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career.

"We will miss him and send our condolences to his family".

The tributes to Lock continued on Monday's edition of the programme, with Holly Willoughby and Dermot O'Leary giving their sympathies to Matty and his family.

Holly was visibly upset at breaking the news to viewers, whilst Dermot looked sullen as he offered his support those grieving his loss.

"He never failed to bring joy and warmth to our studio, with an infectious passion for gadgets and technology, he was truly unique," Holly said of the 19-year-old.

Dermot added his own tribute, saying that he was an "effervescent" guy and "much loved" member of the This Morning family.

Guests Giles Brandreth and Camilla Tominey also gave their love to the bereaved family, calling his passing "sad" and "incredibly shocking".

Matty developed a love for vacuum cleaners at the age of two, when he received a toy Henry Hoover.

After that, he became an expert in tech, and was able to sell over 300 of the machines to teachers and homeowners by the age of 13.

Matty would later become a Labour councillor and campaigner, working as part of Maghull town council.

Soon after the news of his death went public, Matty was inundated with condolences from This Morning viewers and stars alike.

Host Alison Hammond wrote of his passing: "What sad news to wake up to, what a lovely man!! Condolences to his family and friends".

Former co-presenter Rylan also showed his support, commenting: "God that's really sad. Sending love x".

Fans of the show also paid tribute to Matty, with many praising him as a "yound and focused lad", with one user writing: "I'm in shock. He was such a nice guy.

"Full of confidence and character. I loved that item he done. RIP sunshine. Fly high".
