It was down to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to deliver some bad news to wife Carla (Alison King) in tonight’s (March 22) episode of Coronation Street, as Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) settled into his new role at the factory.
Smug Stephen took over from Carla as Underworld boss after he was voted in by the machinists, after drugging Carla with LSD to make her appear incapable of doing the job.
He formed this plan after learning of her battle with psychosis in 2019, following the factory roof collapse.
However, his plan hasn’t worked out quite as well as he would have liked, as he is now being blackmailed by Rufus, who gave him the LSD in the first place.
Having seen Carla’s behaviour, Rufus instantly caught onto what Stephen was up to, and demanded that he cut off the American deal or everyone would find out what was really going on.
While Stephen made excuses to Sarah (Tina O’Brien) over why the American deal hadn’t worked out, Peter was tasked with telling Carla all about what had gone down while she was away.
As she revealed that she eventually planned to return to the factory and give Stephen and Sarah some more responsibilities, Peter spilled all about the machinists betrayal.
However, Carla seemingly took it quite well, claiming that she couldn’t blame them after what had happened.

With Carla subdued for now, Stephen’s only obstacle in getting everything he ever dreamed of is Rufus.
It was recently revealed that Stephen will kill again, so could Rufus be next on his list?
He has already taken the lives of both Leo and Teddy Thompkins, after they rumbled him for various crimes.
However, actor Todd Boyce has revealed that Stephen may be set to kill ‘four or five’ people, which leaves us wondering if he may take his plans for Carla a step further…
‘He has a taste for it now and I think he figures that if he gets caught for three, he might as well get caught for four or five.’ The actor revealed.
Just how far is Stephen prepared to go?
