Phillip Schofield branded openly dismissive of Eamonn Holmes on This Morning

Eamonn asks Isabel if she is dead after feeling her hands

GB News host Eamonn Holmes slammed Phillip Schofield in a recent interview in which he claimed the 61-year-old was “rude and dismissive” of his wife Ruth Langsford.

In a scathing GB News interview which aired in the wake of Phillip stepping down from This Morning after admitting to an affair with a much younger male colleague, Eamonn described him as being “arrogant” towards staff on the ITV show.

A source has now suggested Phillip also “had it in for” Northern Irish broadcaster Eamonn.

“Phillip was very dismissive of Eamonn, quite openly,” they told Mail Online. “We used to call Eamonn and Ruth ‘the B team’.”

“On a personal level, Phillip and Eamonn never got on,” the source claimed.

“Eamonn found him snippy and passive-aggressive and thought he treated the lower-down people on the show very badly.”

They added: “Eamonn couldn’t see how someone like him, a proper journalist, would come beneath the bloke who was in the broom cupboard with Gordon The Gopher.”

Express.co.uk has contacted ITV and Phillip’s representative for comments on the claims.

Several celebrities have spoken out about Phillip in recent weeks, but the father-of-two called out a “handful of people” for holding a “grudge” against him.

During a BBC interview about the controversy surrounding him, Phillip said his affair had “never come across” as an abuse of power because he and his lover were “mates”.

Phillip also told viewers he felt like his career was “over” and apologised for lying to his co-stars.

His co-host, and longtime friend, Holly Willoughby returned to This Morning on Monday and issued a statement to viewers about Phillip’s exit.

She said: “Firstly, are you OK? It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil.

“And I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on, and full of questions.”

She hosted shows last week alongside Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle with no mention of Phillip.

An official replacement for Phillip is yet to be announced by ITV bosses.

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVX.
