Phillip Schofield fighting for job after Holly Willoughby rift

Phillip Schofield says Harry and Meghan 'cant do anything right'

This Morning could see Phillip Schofield, 61, axed following claims his chemistry with co-host Holly Willoughby has gone.

A source told The Mirror: “Monday is very much D-day,” as the star went public on the apparent rift with Holly.

He had shared a statement sources claim neither she nor ITV knew about.

An insider continued: “This Morning’s relationship with its viewers is built on trust, and they have to believe that Holly and Phil’s friendship, and what they’re watching, is real.

“While there was a bit of noise and speculation about their relationship cooling, it could have easily been ignored.

“But by putting this statement out there, he has turned what was a manageable situation into a feeding frenzy.

“If viewers now no longer believe in the pair, and make their views clear next week, make no mistake, ITV will act.

“Phil’s position is looking increasingly precarious. Monday is very much D-day, but the same could apply to any day next week. No one is bigger than the brand.”

The duo’s This Morning contracts are up at the end of the year, with negotiations on any potential renewal due to start in the summer.

Another TV insider added: “Put it this way, Phil is not in the middle of a five-year deal.

“There is a natural cut off point if viewers no longer believe in them as a duo.”

Phillip’s admitted in his statement that “the last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us. As I have said before, Holly is my rock”.

He added: “We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone.

“Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.”

His statement came after viewers called out “tension” between the presenters.

The Sun reported the two “barely speak” behind the scenes and issues have “rumbled for some time”.

This Morning airs on ITV on weekdays from 10am
