Phillip Schofield in ‘bad place’ and won’t return to TV for a while, pals say

Phillip Schofield's friends do not believe that the TV personality will be returning to screens anytime soon.

According to reports, the former This Morning presenter has found himself in a "very bad place" following the publication of ITV's own reporting into his affair with a younger colleague. Therefore it is understood he won't be making a comeback any time soon.

Pals also revealed that Phillip's further downward slump was brought on because he had been "dreading" ITV's upcoming review into his affair. With the ex-television personality having "no idea" what could be unsurfaced.

The findings revealed that ITV chiefs were off of the hook when it came to cover up speculation. With the report clearing all bosses at the broadcasting giant of any wrongdoing.

Since the report, fans of the TV star have made cries for Phillip, 61, to return to screens again. Especially with Dancing On Ice approaching in the coming weeks.

But chum's close to the former on-air host have shot down any hope for supporters wanting to see Phillip make a comeback this side of Christmas. Telling The Mail on Sunday they instead expect him to carry on with "cocooning" himself away at his London home.

This comes after he Phillip had confessed to a relationship with a production assistant who was a much junior colleague on This Morning back in May. Which happened while he was still married to Stephanie Lowe, the mother of his two daughters.

As a result, the fallen ITV star was immediately ditched by his agency of 35 years, YMU. They claimed Phillip had also lied to them over the affair.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, the source said: "Phillip isn't returning anywhere, he has been in a really bad place since he decided to tell the truth and resign from his job. He has got himself into a cocoon and he is continuing to recover."

They went on to add: "He has had the report hanging over his head for a long time. It has been a thing of dread for him. Now that's out of the way he can start to build a life of some kind but there is no way he will be in the public eye again for a very long time, if ever again."

Friends are hopeful that his time away from the public eye will help the TV star to heal especially now that the ITV report is over with. Something Phillip did not take part in because he was "too unwell" to participate.

The review was administered by lawyer Jane Mulcahy KC, and has since been heavily criticised. With the report being dubbed as "whitewash" and a "waste of time", as staff are claimed to be "bewildered" over its findings.

As it was understood junior members of team at the network giant were too frighten to come forward with information about the affair, with the report concluding just one employee knew anything about it.

While conceding that junior staff working at the organisation were too scared to speak up, it found that only one junior employee had said they knew of the affair.
