Piers Morgan booed by NTAs audience as Joel Dommett swipes at former GMB host

Piers Morgan's appearance at the National Television Awards received a chorus of boos from the audience on Tuesday night (September 5).

Host Joel Dommett once again stepped onto the stage, extending his welcome to the array of well-known personalities gathered at London's O2 Arena.

But as Joel introduced Piers Morgan, it prompted lots of boos from the live audience, perhaps not a surprise to many given his controversial outbursts over the years.

And comedian Joel had a pop at Piers too as he addressed the boos and suggested they could say whatever they liked about him.

He quipped: "Say what you like about Piers Morgan," followed by a long pause as the boos rolled on.

But Piers didn't seem too bothered about the frosty reception as he kept his cool throughout.

Viewers tuning in from home promptly commented on the exchange.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan remarked: "the boos for piers morgan i’m WHEEZING," while another exclaimed: "The crowd booing Piers Morgan though."

A third shared: "Joel Dommett trolling Piers Morgan," while afourth added: "Piers pretending he isn't enjoying the booing."

He was at the ceremony in the hopes of picking up a gong for the best TV interview for his work on his show Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Not letting his little jibes go as the show progressed, Joel didn’t miss his chance to make another dig at the broadcaster.

As he announced the category coming up after the break, he told Piers: “Piers, you’re in that one, don’t walk out”, as he let the adverts roll to which the presenter offered an unimpressed expression back.

Joel was referencing Piers’ infamous exit from the set of Good Morning Britain when he stormed off the set after refusing to apologize for comments he made about Meghan Markle.

Ahead of taking his seat in the O2, Piers said that people would “rather shoot themselves” than give him an award at the ceremony while walking the red carpet.

He told the PA news agency: “They’d all rather shoot themselves then give me an award but, but if it’s just on interviews, hard to say that anyone else has had bigger ones that we’ve had in the last year.”

Speaking about how he might fair in his category, he added: “I don’t have any competition.”

Despite his confident words, the star missed out on the chance to take home a gong and watched on as Graham Norton’s popular chat show won the award.
