Piers Morgan has shamelessly reached out to the likes of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak to ask them to respect their promises and appear on his struggling TalkTV show.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter has been grappling to attract viewers to his programme which promises his ‘unmissable verdict on the day’s global events with an hour of fearless debate, straight-talking interviews with the world’s leading figures, and plenty of fun’.
In May, just 10,000 people tuned into Piers Morgan: Uncensored in his lowest ratings yet.
Just last week, the show was reported to have attracted 43,000 viewers, while competitors BBC News raked in a whopping 624,000 and Sky News took 298,000 during the explosive days surrounding Mr Johnson’s reluctant resignation.
Pleading with the departing Prime Minister to make an appearance on his programme before he leaves Number 10 in September, Piers made a very public appeal on Twitter.
‘Hi @BorisJohnson – you may as well do that interview you’ve promised me for the past 7yrs but like so many of your promises, never honoured,’ he wrote.
Hi @BorisJohnson – you may as well do that interview youâve promised me for the past 7yrs but like so many of your promises, never honoured. Youâve got nothing else to do while youâre squatting in No10.
Hi @RishiSunak – you promised me at a party 2 weeks ago youâd come on my show. And your wife recently told me sheâs my biggest fan. But we canât seem to lock you in. I look forward to you appearing asapâ¦. If only to please Akshata.
Hi @Jacob_Rees_Mogg – you promised me at a party 2 weeks ago youâd come on my show. IN FRONT OF YOUR MOTHER. But we canât seem to lock you in.
I know youâre big on honesty so I look forward to you keeping your word asapâ¦.
Hi @TomTugendhat – your commendable military record doesnât suggest you duck a challenge but we canât seem to get you to commit to an interview on @PiersUncensored – surely youâre not worried about a bit of friendly fire?
Hi @nadhimzahawi – you promised me at a party 2 weeks ago youâd come on my show.. and your wife told you that you definitely should. But we canât seem to lock you in. I know you want to restore trust in Govt, so look forward to you keeping your word asapâ¦.
‘You’ve got nothing else to do while you’re squatting in No10.’
Taking aim at Mr Sunak, Piers penned: ‘Hi @RishiSunak – you promised me at a party 2 weeks ago you’d come on my show.
‘And your wife recently told me she’s my biggest fan. But we can’t seem to lock you in. I look forward to you appearing asap. If only to please Akshata.’
Luckily for Piers, Mr Sunak responded and agreed that he would honour his word.
‘Good to know Akshata has declared already 😂,’ he replied. ‘We’ll be in touch! In the meantime hope you’ve signed up.’
Piers also tried his hand at publicly requesting Jacob Rees-Mogg.
‘You promised me at a party 2 weeks ago you’d come on my show,’ he said again. ‘IN FRONT OF YOUR MOTHER. But we can’t seem to lock you in.
‘I know you’re big on honesty so I look forward to you keeping your word asap….’
Only time will tell whether Piers’ public appeals have been successful.
Piers Morgan: Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm on TalkTV.
