Power’s hit spin-off, Power Book is back with its highly anticipated third season this week, and fans can see what’s in store for Tariq St Patrick (played by Michael Rainey Jr) and the rest of the crew as they navigate around the daring world of the drug business. Ahead of the season three premiere, the lead star got fans excited as he teased it’s the “most exciting season” yet.
The star sat down with Express.co.uk to talk all things season three.
When asked if he was excited for the new episodes to air, Rainey claimed it’s actually “the best season yet”.
He explained: “Yes I’m so excited. This is the best season yet. This is like the most exciting season.”
The actor teased there are “a lot of things are going on in the season” whilst adding season three is one fans should “definitely be super excited for”.
The third outing kicks off with Tariq determined to get his trust back amongst his crew, get back to his family, whilst also getting out of the game for good.
But in true Power-style it’s never that easy, following the emergence of a ruthless new connection, which interrupts Tariq’s plans to reunite with Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and Yaz.
This puts him, Brayden (Gianni Paolo), and Effie (Alix Lapri) back into business with the Tejadas as they’re challenged to move more weight than ever before.
When Brayden decides to bring Tariq in as an intern at his family’s hedge fund, Weston Holdings, resulting in the drug business expanding beyond Stansfield and the streets onto Wall Street.
Meanwhile Monet Tejada (Mary J Blige) is still set ablaze by the death of her son Zeke Cross (Daniel Bellomy), who was murdered last season.
Monet is willing to pay a hefty price to avenge her firstborn and keep the rest of her children and the business in line, as she works closely with Davis MacLean (Method Man) to solve Zeke’s murder and keep the feds off her trail.
Business is booming when a staggering revelation forces Tariq to reckon with a betrayal from those closest to him
But things take a turn for the worst when a R.I.C.O. investigation is looming over the entire drug enterprise, pulling Tariq deeper into the business and even closer to the legacy of his father.
Ahead of the season three premiere, Power Book’s official Twitter account got fans in the mood as they tweeted: “You gotta level up if you wanna come out on top. Are you with us? #PowerGhost returns 3/17 on @starz.” [Sic]
Fans were quick to share their excitement for the upcoming season as comments poured in onto the show’s Twitter account.
One fan @s_rxnaa wrote: “Sooo Ghost comes back on this weekend, and idk about yall but I already called out of work and declared it a national holiday.” [Sic]
Another @dpekunate added: “Wait is almost Over” with @3rick_ours writing: “We’ve been waiting.”
A fourth @HomieDiablo added: “The wait will soon finally be over” with @cookietees5 agreeing: “So ready………”
The previous two seasons have seen Tariq’s spin-off drama build with great impact thanks to a cast featuring Michael Rainey Jr, Mary J Blige, Gianni Paolo, Larenz Tate and many other Power favourites.
The sequel has already been renewed for a season four, and to fans’ delight Rainey told the Express.co.uk: “Hopefully the wait for season four isn’t as long as the wait was for season three.”
Meaning season four of Power Book could be on screens sooner than expected.
Power Book II: Ghost season three premieres on STARZ March 17.
