As we learned from the first season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Kanan’s (Mekai Curtis) mother Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), is vicious and savage when it comes to getting her way. With her brothers Marvin (London Brown) and Lou Lou (Malcolm Mays) at her side, Raq will stop at nothing to grow her drug empire.
Now, it looks like Lou Lou’s girlfriend, Jessica (Natalee Linez) might find herself in Raq’s crosshairs in season 2.

Raq and Lou Lou’s relationship will be extremely tense in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Season 2
While Marvin is the eldest sibling, his volatile temper hasn’t made him the best leader of a drug organization. In fact, over everyone, Raq has relied on her youngest brother Lou Lou to get things done. When we’re first introduced to the pair at the beginning of Raising Kanan, they had a strong bond. However, that changed when Raq tasked Lou Lou with killing Kanan’s friend, D-Wiz (Nile Bullock).
Killing a kid changed everything for Lou Lou and made him see his sister as the ruthless monster that she is. “We know that Lou-Lou deeply cares about Raq and Jukebox, and his family and he has a code for what he does,” Mays told TV Line. “When you see that, you’re going to have more empathy for him. “It’s like the moment Tony Montana said, ‘No women, no kids,’ he became endearing because he cared about something. You’re going to see Lou-Lou become more torn about the life he has now and where he wants to be.”
Now considering what Raq tasked Kanan to do in season 1, and hints from the season 2 trailer, things between Raq and Lou Lou are fractured even further.
Raq could have Jessica killed
Lou Lou doesn’t have many weaknesses because he stays to himself. However, he has been in a relationship with Famous’ (Antonio Ortiz) sister Jessica for the majority of the first season. Jessica was the one who first encouraged Lou Lou to pursue his music when she found out that he was a drug dealer. She encouraged him to follow his dreams and untangle himself from his sister’s business.
However, since Raq is determined to have Lou Lou as her right hand we doubt that is going to happen. In fact, if she finds out Jessica is overstepping her bounds with the Thomas family, we know that Raq won’t hesitate to have her killed, which is exactly why Famous tried to keep his sister away from Kanan’s family in the first place.
Lou Lou could have a new love interest
As we know, Lou Lou’s relationship with Jessica has been fraught for some time. Not only has she garnered the attention of Crown Camino (Quincy Brown), a local music producer, Lou Lou feels like she’s more into their relationship to put Famous on than she is for him. Even if Raq spares Jessica’s life, it may be that he has a new love interest altogether when the second season of Raising Kanan debuts.
Paulina Singer has been cast in season 2 as a singer named Zisa. Crown and Lou Lou have added to their record label roster. It will be interesting to see how Zisa’s introduction into the series affects both Lou Lou and Jessica’s relationship as well as Crown and Lou Lou’s already fraught relationship.
