The Rings of Power returned to screens on Friday and as it got closer to the battle for the Southlands, viewers spotted a Lord of the Rings easter egg. Narsil, the iconic sword which was used in the original films, was seen more than 3000 years before it fell into Isildur’s (played by Maxim Baldry) hands.

Rings of Power’s latest episode Great Wave was filled with action, with fans thrilled to spot a Lord of the Rings easter egg.

Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) tried to convince Queen Regent Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) to support her quest to find and destroy Sauron.

The warrior wanted to save Middle Earth from perishing and help the people of the Southlands by getting their forces together against Sauron, the Dark Lord.

Meanwhile, Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) was held hostage by the orcs before being freed to share a warning.

As viewers remained glued to their screens many spotted an easter egg from the original Lord of the Rings films.

During a momentous scene in the second half of the episode, fans were distracted when they saw Galadriel stand next to a familiar sword.

Those who watched Lord of the Rings recognised the weapon as Narsil the sword that Isildur used to cut the One Ring from Sauron’s finger.

This iconic moment was yet to take place as Rings of Power is set more than 3000 years before the events in Lord of the Rings.

However, before Narsil can reach Isildur, it would have to be in the hands of Elendil (Lloyd Owen) who became the first king of Gondor and Arnor.

As Elendil and his son Isildur have already been introduced to fans, it should be a matter of time before they inherit Narsil.

The sword was seen leaning on the wall next to Galadriel when Miriel took her to see the numerous Númenórean heirlooms.

This didn’t go unnoticed by fans who took to social media with excitement and anticipation about the sword’s appearance.

A surprised @FaveDiloni wrote: “Narsil just straight up chilling there.”

A curious @josh_quirky asked: “Did anyone else think they say Narsil in the background when Galadriel and Mirial were talking???”

@hobbitsimp_ added: “Narsil!!!! Aka The Sword that was Broken!! This was Elendil’s sword that Isildur used to cut the one ring from Sauron and was later used by Aragorn after being reforged by Andúril.”

A fourth viewer @finrodsvoice tweeted: “Just Narsil casually leaning against a wall. Looks awesome and a striking resemblance to the film version.”

@Wizard_wheels shared: “I think I spotted a wild Narsil in its natural habitat… Has to be it, so similar to the LOTR trilogy but also different. Looks pretty!”

An excited @Rookie6433 added: “We see Narsil in the last episode of #LOTR #ringofpower the sword of Elendil, Aragorn and Isildur.”

After Narsil was used by Elendil during the War of the Last Alliance, it was eventually repaired by Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and given to Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen).

While the sword is yet to be confirmed as Narsil, it would make sense for it to be as Elenedil was in Númenór when it was spotted.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is available on Amazon Prime Video.
