Rose Ayling-Ellis says Charles and Camilla made sweet gesture on EastEnders set

Rose Ayling-Ellis has revealed the sweet gesture that Prince Charles and Camilla did for the EastEnders star whilst they were on set.

The royal couple appeared on EastEnders in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, held in commemoration of her 70 years on the throne – the longest of any British monarch.

They came to the set back in April to film their cameo appearance which saw them talk with some of Walford’s most famous residents.

She spoke to Patrick, Stacey, Mick and Linda but the most touching interaction came when they met Frankie, played by Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The actress discussed their meeting at the Party at the Palace event on 4 June with Kirsty Young: “So, we had Camilla and Charles come to visit and they tried out acting. They acted for a bit and we played our characters meeting them, it was really, really special.”

She then revealed Charles and Camilla’s heartfelt gesture: “Both of them came up to me and the first thing they did was sign ‘good morning’ to me. I was really, really touched by that, I was really impressed that they knew how to sign ‘good morning’.”

The couple had learnt British Sign Language so that they were able to communicate with Rose, which the star admitted she appreciated.

Camilla also told her that she and the family had voted for Rose and her dance partner Giovanni Pernice as they competed in the BBC dance competition.

Rose was the show’s first deaf contestant and went on to win the show and lift the Glitterball trophy with her partner and close pal Giovanni.

Rose commented: “Apparently, Camilla is a big fan of Strictly. She said she voted for me every week and all her children voted for me every week. That is incredible, the royal family voted for me! That’s mad.”

The royals’ EastEnders episode was a big hit with the viewers and some even called it the “best ever”.

An overjoyed fan wrote on Twitter that it “had to be” the best as their appearance was “an amazing royal surprise,” which “brought a tear to their eye” before they praised the cast and crew for their efforts.
