Amazon Prime’s new series Daisy Jones and The Six follows the rise and fall of 70’s rock band The Six. Ahead of the drama’s premiere earlier this year, star Sam Claflin, who plays Billy Dunne, discussed filming a “pretty hard” scene with co-star Riley Keough which aired at the end of episode eight.

The eighth episode of Amazon Prime’s Daisy Jones and The Six saw Billy Dunne getting fed up with Daisy’s (Riley Keough) increasingly erratic behaviour.

Following her antics on stage during the concert tour, Billy stormed over to her hotel room with the intention of kicking her out of the band.

However, Daisy’s husband Nicky (Gavin Drea) answered the door, as he nervously attempted to assure Billy that everything was okay with Daisy.

When he wouldn’t let Billy inside, Billy pushed his way through the door and found an unconscious Daisy, who had overdosed in the shower.

Upon seeing Daisy passed out on the floor, Billy exclaimed she was “not breathing” to tour manager Rod (Timothy Olyphant) as he cradled Daisy’s limp body in his arms.

In a desperate bid to keep Daisy alive, Billy begged her to stay with him as Rod called a doctor.

Looking up at Billy, Daisy whispered: “It’s you,” before passing out again.

Talking about that tense scene to TVLine, Claflin admitted it was “pretty hard” for all of the cast.

The star explained: “I think for everyone involved, it was pretty hard,” whilst reflecting on shooting the emotionally heavy scene.

“It was scripted, but not scripted. So much of the kind of pain and the anguish that comes with that and lines that I was sort of throwing in.”

Claflin then touched on how he got into the right headspace to make sure the film was as authentic as possible.

“I was just sort of trying to put myself in that position and get an understanding of what it would be like,” he added.

Trying to perfectly execute the pivotal Billy and Daisy moment had its toll on Claflin, who explained: “Physically, it was [as] taxing as much as it was emotionally.”

Despite the hardships of creating the scene, the cast’s efforts paid off as author Taylor Jenkins Reid, on whose book the series is based, praised the moment even though it wasn’t a part of her novel.

She explained: “There are a few moments that I was really, really taken with. There were even moments where I was like, ‘Damn, why didn’t I do that?’”

Before adding: “Which is a testament to the writing on the show. Billy finding Daisy in the shower is really moving.”

The Billy Dunne actor also recently discussed the other challenges he faced whilst filming the hit musical-drama.

Speaking on Magic Radio with Tom Price, Claflin admitted: “Well I don’t really like singing.

“I think hearing yourself sing and especially during the recording process, hearing myself sing without the music playing as well at times, to kind of hear whether I hit a note or not, was the most horrific thing that’s ever happened to me.

“I am not a fan of also watching myself either. So not only watching myself but also listening to myself sing obnoxiously high notes was too much for me.”

Daisy Jones and The Six is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
