Shaughna Phillips opens up about her traumatic birth as ‘distressed’ baby’s heart ‘rocketed’ | The Sun

SHAUGHNA Phillips has opened up about her traumatic birth that saw her baby "distressed" and her heart rate "rocketing".

The former Love Island star welcomed her first baby, a daughter named Lucia, earlier this month.

Shaughna, 29, took to her Instagram stories to tell her "birth story" as part of a tell-all Q&A with her following.

Posting a photo of her baby girl having a nap, she told fans: "My dream girl is having her nap so let's catch up."

She told fans to post their questions in a box titled "long overdue catch up", with one immediately asking for her "labour story".

Shaughna revealed that she was induced at three weeks past her due date, and was forced to use "gas and air" from the pain.

"I then went four hours into labour with just gas and air and when I was next examined, I hadn't dilated," she continued.

Shaughna said she was advised to have an epidural after more hormone inductions as her contractions were sent "from 0 to 100".

"I started pushing at 6:30pm for over an hour but Lucia would come down and slide straight back up and her heart rate was rocketing," she added.

"I then went in for emergency forceps but as soon as they put them on her head, she flipped around so they had to stop and go ahead with the emergency C-section.

"As soon as I knew baby was in distress, I didn't care how they got her out. I just wanted her here as quickly and safely as possible.

"The second I heard her cry every fear I had left my body."

Shaughna concluded: "I was really sad I wasn't able to give birth how I originally planned, but I always said I'll have whatever birth needed to get here, and that was the most important thing to me."

It comes after Shaughna was praised for showing the reality of being a new mum with a candid snap.

She wanted fans to see what she's really been going through since giving birth last week, and the reality star didn't shy away from showing her swollen legs from an emergency C-section.

"Thought I’d bless your timeline with some reality," Shaughna said.

"Breast feeding top, maternity nappy, peppermint tea to help the trapped wind in my shoulder (that pain is worse than any contraction I had btw), legs swollen from surgery and tired beyond belief!

"Can we also appreciate how I was able to fall asleep while keeping my cup upright?! Talent. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I’m not winging it? But thank god for my village."
